... inspects hotel, convention centre

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reassured on his istration's commitment to revamping the moribund Ibom Tropicana Entertainment complex, by re-constructing the Ibom International Convention Centre and Hotel in furtherance of the tourism drive of the ARISE Agenda.

Briefing Government House Correspondents after an unscheduled inspection of the facilities, Governor Eno remarked that the facilities cannot continue to lie waste considering the volume of funds already sunk into the projects by previous istration.

"You need to know how much we have sunk into these projects. And, you need to know how much of Akwa Ibom money is invested here. Akwa Ibom State is fast becoming a tourist destination. So, we need to tidy up these projects to effectively build up our digital economy.

"If our focus is on building a world class economy in of diversification, we can't do without an International Conference Centre like this which sits about 5,000 people at a go, and also boasts of breakout rooms.

"We also have this hotel with about 200 rooms tied up to the International Convention Centre. This place also has a shopping city as well as a theme park which we are about to go into a Public Private Partnership arrangement."

Governor Eno said the unscheduled inspection of the facilities was to bring out the best in of appropriate interactions with the workers, observance of the quality of work done, timely completion of the project and execution according to specifications.

"What motivates me in all these inspections is the amount of money put in these projects. We are elected to serve the people; and, you put your mind where your money is. So, we have to restart this construction, and I love unscheduled inspection to see what is happening and ascertain if the workers are on site.

"It is not just enough to give a contract. There is a schedule –a timeline. We need to visit sites to know if the timeline is realistic or do we have any challenge anywhere? So, when you come to the site, you are able to deal with the issues right there and then,"
he explained.

Speaking further, he said "For me, I was taught way back in my business school class that, in Africa, you get what you inspect, you don't get what you expect. So, that principle helps me a lot.

"Besides, we are officially flagging off these projects next week, and I needed to see and know what is on ground to be able to say exactly as it is without any contradictions after the flag off. And, the best way to inspect this work is to do it unscheduled," he explained.

akwa ibom has very fertile land and that land can be used to produce palm oil and coconut oil in abundance, as well as other cash crops but as a m0r0n that he is the governor has chosen to build projects that will not generate good income for the state long term.

How does this projects benefit Akwa ibomites
What exactly will the building be used for?
There are lots of buildings like this not only in Akwa Ibom lying fallow after construction. Akwa ibom has lots of it too. They play politics with the building and when it's complete, nobody uses it again. Waste of funds that could have been better utilized

What a dumb Governor. That is why the state will have low IGR. If the private sector so the viability they will be the one spearheading the project not the other way round.

All these bitterness from those who are neither from Akwa-Ibom nor the SS, heck, they don't even reside there, just because the governor decamped to APC.
They would have been hailing him about this same project if he had decamped to LP

They never learn. This is why they built the tower with not one oil company relocating their HQ. Nobody goes back and looks to see if the state goal of the project is ever met.

Just like otti who wants to turn government house to hotel. Shallow thinking from a Lp governor

Do some of you even think or do a little research before you type or you just type whatever comes into your mind. Currently, Akwa Ibom is the highest producer of palm oil in not just Nigeria but in Africa so why should the State plant more palm oil trees? Have you been to Akwa Ibom before? because the entire State is filled with palm trees!!! The State already has a coconut oil processing factory built by the immediate past Governor. Are they supposed to build coconut factory in every istration?

Akwa ibom is my state, but I'll tell you the standard of living here is a total breakdown, hunger and hardship is more severe here compared to other states I have been. Our govenmors must look beyond Hotels, worship centers, stadiums and other unnecessary projects, start tackling this monster "unemployment and hardship" in the state.
If you are from Akwa ibom, you can come and insult me, but I must tell the truth.
