APC chieftain claims Tinubu increased Reps’ constituency project allowance from N200m to N1bn after subsidy removal

Ayodele Asalu, A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has claimed that the istration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has increased House of Representatives consistency project allow from N200 to N1 billion after subsidy removal.

Constituency allowances are the funds released by the federal to each lawmaker which is meant to address socio-economic challenges in their immediate constituencies. It is also meant to rural development efforts.

Asalu, who is a former Reps aspirant for Ede/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency in the state made the claim while speaking at a recent meeting with his ers and member of the APC.

Speaking in a video sighted by IntelRegion, the politician said no member of the House of Representatives now receives less than N1 billion for constituency projects, which is a sharp rise from previous allocations that were as low as N200 million, adding that, Senators, on the other hand, now get nothing less than N2 billion.

“Before 2024, it wasn’t like this. “But after subsidy removal, federal allocations to states increased—and so did lawmakers’ project funds. If you see a lawmaker executing projects, don’t be fooled into thinking it’s from their personal pocket, he spoke in Yoruba.

The ex-Reps aspirant praised Tinubu’s istration for the upward review, stating that the move was intended to make life easier for citizens by empowering lawmakers to deliver more developmental projects.

“Take Osun State as an example, before now, an Honourable member’s allowance was less than N200 million. Today, nobody gets less than N1 billion. And no senator operates with less than N2 billion. These are facts, not exposés,” he said.

He, however, didn’t specify if the money is monthly or annually.

A similar revelation was made by, a senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Ned Nwoko, in March 2024, who claimed that he received more than N1 billion for constituency projects in the 2024 budget.

“Senators get what they lobby for, not because they have the right to it. Everybody just goes about doing what they can do for their constituencies and senatorial districts.

“A better approach would have been for senatorial uniformity. So if they say that everyone should get about N1 billion, be it. But this way, you rely on your weight and s to see what you can get for your people.

“We are not talking about money for the senators. This is for projects within our senatorial districts. If you have road, water, or training programmes, all should aggregate to a particular amount,” he said.

Asked if he got as much as N1 billion in allocation, the senator replied, “Of course, I did. That’s why I am who I am. But these are projects for my people.”

Busted !!!!
It's highly unfortunate that Nigerian leadership prefers to rob millions to pay few in the name of oil subsidy removal.
Instead of increasing IGR to pay the Governors and federal lawmakers more why not save the masses by using the money to build state owned refineries and save subsidy removal hardship meted on Millions of Nigerians.

MAY GOD HEAL OUR MINDS OUR LAND

A project that What was done for 200m three years ago will take like 800m or 1 billion to complete now. Tinubu just like throwing high numbers around even if it doesn't have value.

After he released the money to them, they will pocket it. While some mumu people won't hold their states representatives able for the developments they need. They are waiting for Tinubu to come to their house and do it.

What is the correlation between ing laws and consitituency projects. This is huge conduit for corruption.

Sadly, only House of Representatives could repeal this corrupt policy..

Corruption in Chief gave them money and being desperate to rule, they have to sing his praises to hide their looting. Morons fall for their propaganda

Nigerians are not wise, their money is with state governors, senators, this is the money appropriated to their states and constituencies, but they let the governors and senators/house of assembly loot in peace and they all focus on president, I say focus on both but even more on your state governors and constituents representatives because this is the money accrued to your people. Focusing on just the president is either great mischief or ignorance and disservice to the development of the states and localities across Nigeria...every adult should understand and assimilate the principles of seperation of powers and the roles of each arm of government. If the senators/house of representatives are not doing it right, we must call them out and vote them out, because they are there representing us in governance, the senators are there to represent the people, they swore an oath to the people, monies are appropriated to them to cater for their constituencies, I wonder why adults don't understand this simple principle.
