Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has announced the imminent closure of the Muna Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Maiduguri, as part of ongoing efforts to phase out all formal IDP camps within the state capital.

The governor disclosed this during an early morning visit to the camp on Monday, stating that the closure would take place in the coming weeks.

Established during the peak of the humanitarian crisis caused by the Boko Haram insurgency, the Muna camp currently shelters around 10,000 displaced persons.

However, Zulum revealed that approximately 75 percent of the camp’s residents have already been successfully resettled in their original communities.

He reassured the remaining inhabitants that the government is committed to ing their transition through livelihood assistance and reintegration , underscoring the istration’s commitment to sustainable recovery and long-term development.

“This move marks a critical step in our transition from emergency response to rebuilding lives and communities,” the governor said.

During his first term, Zulum pledged to close all IDP camps within Maiduguri, a goal he has steadily pursued. So far, over 12 camps have been closed as part of this initiative.

It makes no sense to have IDP camps and be sponsoring spiritual javelin throwers to attack a devil.

Big kudos to the Nigerian military. It seems like the insecurity in the NE is a bit too exaggerated. Like opposition just wanting to claw at any little thing to score a political point.

Ok

Nice initiative. Although i hope it isn’t being closed so they’ll justify their mantra that “Terrorism is over”

Pockets of violence in some few areas is not as if the whole Maiduguri is on fire. Govt is shutting down IDP Camps. Opposition are playing too much politics.

Zulum, who has been hammering more on the insecurity issue now belongs to the opposition.
The claim that security has improved just because these people returned back to their communities is false.
The truth is Boko Haram has shifted their operational base.

This your comment shows that you were still a kid in 2012, 13 and 2014, when APC as opposition used the Boko Haram insurgency induced insecurity as a campaign strategy.
So coming now to talk about opposition using it to score a political point shows how naive and hypocritical you people are.

Why am I even wasting my time schooling a child about political manoeuvre.

I don't blame you. It is cheap to say it from your comfort zone. If you or a close relative was victim, you will comment sensibly.
