Governor Alex Otti has been a breath of fresh air for Abia State since taking office in 2023. His Labour Party (LP) platform gave him the edge to win, and he’s delivered—fixing roads like Port Harcourt Road, ensuring salaries are paid on time, and pushing projects like the Geometric Power Plant in Aba. But Nigeria’s politics is a tough game, and staying with a weakened LP could put Otti and Abia in a tight spot. There’s talk, though unconfirmed, that the federal government might hold back funds to pressure Otti into ing the All Progressives Congress (APC). Whether that’s true or not, aligning with the APC makes sense for Otti to keep Abia on track and avoid headaches that could stall his progress. Here’s why this move could be a game-changer for the state.

First off, Nigeria’s system gives the federal government serious control over state funds. Abia depends on monthly FAAC allocations to pay its bills, service its N192 billion debt, and fund Otti’s big projects. If the FG, led by the APC, decides to play hardball—say, by delaying funds or sidelining Abia in federal programs—it could mess with Otti’s plans. We’ve seen opposition states struggle with this before, even if no hard proof exists for Abia right now. ing the APC would put Otti on the same team as the FG, smoothing out access to funds and protecting Abia from any political games. It’s not about giving in; it’s about making sure the state’s money keeps flowing to keep the lights on and roads paved.

Then there’s the chance to tap into federal . Otti’s doing great things, but projects like Geometric Power or major roadworks need more than Abia’s slim budget can handle. The APC controls federal agencies like the NDDC and the Ministry of Power, which can pour resources into states they favor. If Otti’s in the APC, he could push for Abia to get more federal projects—think better power for Aba’s markets or new highways to boost trade. Look at how APC states often get priority for federal goodies; Abia could be next in line, giving Otti the tools to scale up his vision.

Politically, the APC offers Otti a stronger base. The LP is crumbling nationally, with infighting and no real clout since 2023. Big shots like Senate President Godswill Akpabio have openly called Otti to the APC, saying it’s his best shot for 2027. They’re not wrong—APC’s machine could lock in Otti’s re-election and give Abia a louder voice in Abuja. Imagine Otti shaping Southeast policies or securing more federal investment for Abia, something he can’t do as an LP outsider. Plus, being in the APC could quiet local rivals who might stir trouble if he stays isolated.

Some folks will say Otti shouldn’t ditch LP—it’s what got him elected, and his fans love his outsider vibe. Fair point, but Abia’s voters care more about results than party logos. Otti’s built trust by delivering, and he can keep that up in the APC without losing his edge. Others might worry he’d be a federal puppet, but Otti’s no pushover. His track record and praise from heavyweights like Obasanjo show he’s got the smarts to hold his own in any party.

Bottom line: Otti ing the APC isn’t about selling out—it’s about playing smart to keep Abia moving forward. It secures the funds, opens federal doors, and strengthens his hand politically. Abia’s progress is too important to risk on LP’s shaky ground. Otti’s got the chance to make Abia a powerhouse, and the APC could be the key to getting it done.

..if Gov. Otti can already secure the future of Abians by not ing Apcshit..there is also no good reason for him to decamp to a party of failures & terrorists.. grin grin

..the day Otti will make that mistake..will be the day the killings of fulani herdsmen will increase further..& he will be forced to deny such killings..claiming they are communal clashes.. grin grin

..he is doing well not ing the evil party..& he loses nothing nöt ing the coven öf mandate thieves..

Governor Alex Otti faces a critical decision: remain in the Labour Party (LP) as an opposition leader, risking federal pushback and limited resources, or the All Progressives Congress (APC) to secure Abia’s development. Staying with LP preserves his outsider appeal but could isolate him in a system where federal favor drives funding for projects like roads and power. ing APC aligns him with Nigeria’s power center, ensuring steady FAAC allocations, federal projects, and political clout to sustain his transformative agenda—timely salaries, infrastructure, and economic growth—while shielding Abia from potential financial sabotage

Otti has told u guys that he is not a desperate politician.

After his 8yrs,he is going to retire no continuation.

No senate

No ministerial seat.

No appointments.

He would be done.

For Abia state, our future is secured not until he s criminals gangs in APC and for Otti, he can not hand over to criminals like his predecessors did.

So,leave Abia state alone.

If Anambra can survive with APGA,we can do better with the Labour party.

So if PDP or any other party wins the presidential election, all state governors should defect to the ruling party to 'secure their future'

Backward County so if you don't belong to APC they will allow you to develop your state

Some people can be eternally stupid. It's because Nigerian politics and politicians have no integrity that they are defecting from the party they got their mandate, to the ruling party as they are monkeys swinging from one branch to another

Someone will win in an opposition party, then defect to ruling party on the excuse that they cannot be in the opposition. So you didn't know you cannot be in opposition when you were running?

This whole defection thing is a shameful move by politicians to be closer to the corridors of power, for personal interests, nothing more.

Is there any APC State that sells petrol cheaper? That sells Rice cheaper? Where there is 24 hour light? Everyone is suffering equally, APC or not

The person who has come to work for the people, will work for the people, no matter the political party he is elected

But the person who came to work for himself will defect to the ruling party for selfish interests

..why should he Apcshit because of loans he is not finding difficult to pay..is it because of loan repayment he should Apcshit..

..the loans that he has paid..how did he pay it..or did you pay any loan for him..?

..how many governors who are in Apcshit are loan free..? how has ing Apcshit helped them to pay the loans they collected & eventually looted it..?

Without rigging, APC, cannot win any election. If Otti s APC,he will loose 2027 election because south east is not base for APC.

You want him to go gang of thieves so abia can return to past decay. What has the federal led APC by SW president achieved in nigeria beside hunger, poverty and insecurity.
Tell me what Imo state is gaining or the governor have achieved by being in apc beside mass killing of my state youth. Tell SW president that SE will never vote for him .He needs to do the needful...s.e.y .I h.e.a .d in river Niger onitsha..lol
