I did wonder how I ended up with a back to back bot ban too, explains a lot.

I won't be appealing to the mods for reinstatement though, the ban is good in that like prolonged gambling, it's advisable to take a break once in a while.

If the mute option is provided, each nairaland member will be able to manually exclude any other member, who posts inappropriate comments, from his or her .
If the mute or block option is provided, the new bot mandate may detect s that are getting muted or blocked by others.
An that gets a very large number of mutes or blocks may be investigated, and an appropriate action taken.

What you can do is limit and punish it.

Ban inciting words like Igbo, Mala, NgbatiGbati such that the words can't even be typed. Then reward positive posters like give buttons or titles like " Top rated Commenter" with the rule that a Tribalist can't get the button.

You can't stop someone from disliking Ijaw people or Yorubas or Ibos it Tivs or Fulani. But you can punish them for dehumanizing them.

I don't know how the bot works. But, however it does I think it should have a way of carefully and accurately tracking a 's "offenses history" before making the decision to ban a .

When viewing comments, we come across comments that are agreeable to us and like such comments.

In the same vein, we also come across comments that may not be agreeable to us and we should also be able to dislike such comments.

1. Block button. This will help alot in the tribal issues. They'll just block themselves and not see each others post

2. Dislike button.

Because what you did was like a whimper in a hurricane. While I understand the feeling of being unappreciated you have got to stop feeling entitled to people's gratitude.

Look at it this way , people have a choice to visit this site or not. They have a choice , they deserve some gratitude for doing so , you aren't doing anyone any favours. If you shut this site down today maybe some people will rant online and mock you or even feel sad but inevitably they will move on. There are thousands of sites like this now , it's nothing special anymore.

So when they complain about how toxic it is stop taking it personally and see it like you own a hotel and guests are angry it's dirty and smelly.

If you fix up the place don't think you did it for them ,no you did it for your business to be able to attract new clients because irrespective of any propaganda it's obvious this site is loosing s daily. It's bleeding so fixing It is a right step.

I don't think it's that serious because lots of people I know have already left the forum due to toxicity. Secondly the platform which this site if built on is very outdated and can't have such features

you promised a UI upgrade! Where is it? Some Nairalanders are also asking for a Dislike button. I am of the opinion that you tie s to phone numbers. (See Seun sweating ..lol). A phone number to 2 s max. So all these people who just use junk mails to open tonnes of s will be flushed out of the system.

Just like someone suggested above, create a dislike & block button, whoever that got blocked/dislike many times must be banned by bot & program the bot in such a way that it will report any with multiple dislikes/block to the mod for proper scrutiny

The issue of toxicity is the major issue been addressed here and if it will require tying an to all you stated, to sanitize this place, then so be it!

The thing we have become so "comfortable" with toxicity that even Seun seems scared of the consequence of wielding the big stick!
