So this thread is inspired by a recent post by Yoruba poster here: https://nairaland.unblockandhide.com/8396294/awolowo-smarter-more-intelligent-thanwho claimed that Zik lost out in the West and then went to East to use tribalism to oust EYO ITA as the leader of the East.

Normally I wouldn't even bother with such historical distortion, but I'm inclined to do that because we now have a large number of Igbo youths who have been brainwashed by MNK and IPOB to accept all sorts of nonsense ( denigration, gaslighting, etc) from SS Minorities in the "stupeed" hope that doing so will make them accept their dead and delusional multi ethnic Biafra with these minorities.
Not clarifying the Eyo Ita saga will give these misguided Igbos more reasons to feel apologetic for a deed Ndiigbo never committed before these minorities.

Now to the matter of Zik-Eyo Ita face-
off:On the eve of the 1951 elections in
which Azikiwe contested for a seat in the
Western House of Assembly from his
Lagos base, Zik declared that he was not
going to accept a ministerial post in “an
inferior legislature of the colonial type”.
In other words, he was not prepared to
serve as minister (premier or prime-
minister) at regional or national level in
the then premature Nigerian political
system. His object, he said, was to
achieve an NCNC majority in the regional
and central legislatures that would act to
“paralyse the machinery of government”
and lead to a reformation of the
Constitution.The Maherson Constitution
had provided for “semi-responsible
government” at the centre and in the
regions.

The official phrase was “responsible
government within defined limits”. Zik did
not accept this. He wanted total
independence. This was what informed
his declaration above. It was a grand
tactics for national independence that the
Action Group later imbibed.
After the upheavals in the Western House
of Assembly,Zik began to rally his
partymen to the achievement of the
above-stated objectives. This took some
time. Eventually, however, the NCNC
resolved and called its central ministers
to resign in order to actualise the above
independence strategy.

But these ministers were now enjoying
their new stations in life, the perquisites
of ministerial office. Some of them did
not, therefore, want to give up the
positions. In so doing, they were
undoubtedly sabotaging and delaying the
independence struggle that had already
got them to where they were.
Three NCNC central (national) ministers
were the first culprits and were summarily
dismissed from the party. They were
A.C.Nwapa (Igbo), EniNjoku (Igbo) and
Okoi Arikpo(Ogoja).

ONLY DrEndeley (Cameroun) was
ive of the tactics.Eyo Ita, the Head
of Government Business in Eastern
Nigeria and some of his ministers picked
against the policy and were flabbergasted
when the central ministers were
dismissed by the party. Of course, when
the party asked them to resign, they
equally rebelled against the party and
refused to comply. They became known
as ‘sit-tight ministers’.

Amongst them wereEyoIta (Ibibio),E.I.Oli
(Igbo), S.J.Una (Ogoja), R.I.Uzoma (Igbo),
S.W.Ubani-Ukoma (Igbo) and
S.J.Koripoma (Ijaw). Those who complied
with party directive and resigned were
Dr.M.I.Okpara (Igbo), M.C.Awgu (Igbo)
and S.T.Muna (Bamenda, Cameroun).

To suggest that Eyo ita loss was tribally motivated and not ideologically motivated, when we can clearly see that the majority of Eyo ita accomplices were Igbo, amounts to dishonesty and historical revisionism.

The East was united by shared ideology not ethnicity like in the West where the minorities including the Oba of Bini were treated like unequals.

With the above ‘sit-tight’ attitude of some of the ministers, it behoved the legislature to orchestrate the requisite action to paralyse government business, which was practically in the hands of the British Lt. Governor.

In the Eastern House of Assembly, the NCNC majority subsequently succeeded in paralysing the constitutional system by voting to defeat or defer every bill before the House. As a last resort, the Lt. Governor was obliged to use his reserve power of legislation, the ultimate proof of colonial rule and subjugation in a politically advanced dependency, to the Regional Appropriation Bill into law. On adjournment day, the expelled ministers (Central and Regional) ed with a few other legislators and ers who had resigned from the NCNC to form a new party, the National Independence Party, with EyoIta as president. Some 10 weeks later, the Eastern parliamentary crisis was resolved by dissolution of the Eastern House of Assembly following the enactment of an amendment to the Constitution permitting the dissolution of the legislature of a single region. During this period, according to Sklar, the strain on the Constitution was not confined to the Eastern Region, as events of a less dramatic but nonetheless fateful character transpired in the West. Action Group’s hostility to the Constitution was scarcely less than that of the NCNC. Ultimately, the Maherson Constitution proved unworkable and collapsed as Zik had planned after 15 months of its operation and was replaced with a new Constitution (the Lyttleton Constitution of 1954) that granted residual powers to the regions and provided that apart from the Regional Governor, colonial officials of the istration would be excluded from the Executive Council of the Eastern and Western Regions, amongst other favourable provisions.

Meanwhile, with the collapse of EyoIta’s
government in May 1953, a new election
was conducted to elect new to
the Eastern House of Assembly. Azikiwe
was elected from Onitsha; NCNC
dominated the House and its leader,
Azikiwe, assumed the office of premier or
head of government.

Eyo Ita as leader of the minor party in the
House became leader of Opposition.For
details of these historical facts, see
Richard L. Sklar, Nigerian Political Parties
(1963), pages 115 – 140. Amplifications
of particular points can also be gleaned
from James S. Coleman, Nigeria:
Background to Nationalism (1958).
Given the above prognosis, would it be
wise and correct for anybody to claim
thatZik or the Igbo conspired to oust Eyo
Ita from power? Or that the constitutional
crisis that terminated EyoIta’s government
was tribally motivated? But this is the
verdict or notion that has been
transmitted from generation to generation
in the South-South.

Finally, let me recap that in October 1959,
Professor EyoIta, Head of Government
Business and Minister of Natural
Resources of Eastern Nigeria from 1952 to
May 1953, resigned his leadership and hip of united national independent party ( UNIP) and reed NCNC.

So you see, Eyo Ita fell from Grace to grass, and despite the fact that he enjoyed Igbo , Eyo ita will descend low to the old tested and trusted " Igbo want to dominate us" mantra, he became the New poster boy for the COR movement, but when that wasn't yielding dividends, because while he was preaching "Igbophobia", NCNC still had henchmen like Mbu from COR area, showing the people the truth.

Eyo ita, will later re NCNC in October 1959. In a typical if you can't beat them, you them, Nigerian politicians style.

Evidence on ground show they were all wrong.
They all say that to rile up emotionally weak commoners.
There is no single evidence of Igbo dominating minorities in the old Eastern region, the Willink commission report was explicit on that.

Whenever a Nigerian politician wants to take selfish measures that will injure the masses, knowing fully well that the Igbo naturally hate suffering and will rebel against any leadership or policy that will expose them to such. Such wicked leaders start by preaching Igbo domination agenda, this way they isolate Ndiigbo, and make it easier for them to unleash poverty on everyone else including Ndiigbo.

EYO ITa was compromising the push for independence by NCNC for the whole country on altar of personal comfort for himself and his own family, but when it backfired, he fought back by shouting "Igbo domination".

Tinubu is impoverishing the whole country, Ndiigbo will naturally fight against anyone trying to impoverish us, we are a democratic people by nature and will not accept a single bad man putting the rest under pain while he enjoys, so what does Tinubu do?
He unleashes army of people like you to go and be stoking flames of Igbophobia, of course the aim is simply to ensure you separate the rest of the country from the rebellious Igbos who if left unchecked will open everyone else's eyes to reject the bad leader.
This has been the case of Tinubu/ Yoruba APC aka AD and Igbos residing in Lagos.
The Igbos in Lagos know that their living conditions there can be better if Tinubu godfather grip is broken., Lagos will get a better leadership that will work for all inhabitants, and the Igbo doesn't even care about his ethnicity, they have ed Agbaje and anyone else they think stood a chance of ousting Tinubu cabal in the past.
But to achieve this , they will need the help of everyone else in Lagos, especially Yorubas there too, but to prevent this, you Tinubu men have mastered how to control your commoners by reaching to their innate Igbophobia through Igbo hate campaigns, this way the Igbo are isolated and unable to achieve the critical mass needed to oust your reign of impoverishment not only in Lagos, but in Nigeria too.

Having the cultural willpower to "outhustle" you even in your own backyard doesn't equate to having the tendency to dominate you. Don't get it mangled! We come prepared by an egalitarian culture for competition. If your lukewarm cultural penchants inhibits you from having the mentality to struggle to always be at the top, blame your traditional leaders and not those who were born wilking to dare.. If you have igbos around and you are not ready for competition, you are in trouble.

Igbos compete everywhere.., it is that simple! They compete with themselves and with others. And you wont see them complain if they lost to "fair competition". Competition energises merit. A merit based society is a society that is bound to be at the top. So we are not going to pipe low and watch you guys criminalise "merit" simply because you look bemused whenever merit is set as the yardstick...You can look at your quota system ravaged Nigeria and see how good your "rankadede and kabyesioo" ideology has worked out for the country..

You were doing good untill you started blasting some igbos who are pro SS. That's myopic politics but I know you won't listen to me. I have met many igbos like you. You are allowing emotions to dictate things..
I have said it here on many threads that igbos who are easily riled up by the tantrums coming from the south south should quickly go and read about the concept of "divide and rule" in politics. It is important because that's what federal Nigeria is using here. These igbos are doing more harm to the "igbo interests" going further into the next generations than they know.

Zik was against the lumping of the Midwest into the south west. He did all he could to extricate the Midwest from Awolowos grip in the former western Nigeria. He succeeded with the referendum that created the Midwest region and basically made the midwest igbos the politcal power brokers in that new region. Awolowo response was to go berserk by ing anything that will lead to the balkanisation of the former Eastern Nigeria. The war provided him with that opportunity on a platter and he over-did things by committing a genocide in the process. He's in Hell as we speak because of his Hate.

For any politically active igbo man not to know that the igbos as at today, possess both the economic and numerical advantages that can be utilised to skew the general cultural/political developments in the SS towards a pro igbo stand, is a blasphemy. We can't continue to match the "political rascality" in the south south with haughty outbursts when Tinubu is busy trying to use a very discredited road network to tie the south south to the south west like an umbilical cord! It is blind politics. The SS will forever be our immediate neighbours and they are turning them into our eternal enemies, meanwhile an igbo man in the height of his political tomfoolery is yelling "we don't need the south south, we also have oil and gas"! Hello!? Russia has more oil and gas but she went to war over Cremea!

You are still living in Utopia.
There is no divide and rule between Ndiigbo and Minorities, one cannot divide what was never united to start with.
If you can remove your simping gown, maybe you can go read the hefty falsehoods and allegations that these minorities made against Ndiigbo before Willink commission that were all investigated by the British and found to be false.

Only a mentally challenged person want a unity with people who hate, denigrate and demonize him. It's the classical simping behaviour. You IPOB guys need to be saved from yourselves, you are emotional and can't reason clearly without sentiments, yet you try to project yourself on others like myself who can see with clarity being unencumbered by emotions or attachments.

My rejection of every sort of relationship between Ndiigbo and Minorities is not built on tantrums anyone is throwing, they are built on historical antecedents of uninterrupted Igbo resentment from these groups since colonial era towards Ndiigbo, despite Ndiigbo non stop show of love and fairness to these groups.

Zik and Osadebay worked on extracting Anioma from Western region and return them to the Eastern Igbo, that was the original plan, but the Edoids made a concession to stay in a union with Anioma with compromise of relinquishing the political leadership of the new region to Anioma, a proposition Zik and Osadebay Found attractive and accepted .

You IPOB go about deceiving yourselves and make it look like minorities are incapable of making their own decisions, you narrow all their Igbo resenting actions to Hausa-Fulani and Yorubas controlling them, you hate face reality, so you created your own delusional reality.

Here are the facts:

Eastern Minorities made up lies against Ndiigbo before Willink commission to project us as bad people despite how fair we treated them, imagine if the British weren't there to look at the cases and found out they were all lies .

These Eastern minorities happily turned on us after the war, abandoned property saga and all others vices. They did this out of spite, bitterness, envy and disdain they have for us.

After the war, Zik contested for Nigerian presidency in 1979 and 1983, but couldn't win any tangible votes in Minority states of old Rivers ( Bayelsa and Rivers)and old Cross River ( Akwaibom and Cross River).
They all voted Shagari and Awolowo as Ist and second choices or vice versa with Zik coming a distant third. You want to blame Yoruba and Hausa Fulani for this too?

Despite all these , we showed for their son GEJ twice , voted for him massively in 2011, 2015
But guess what, Obi couldn't win in Bayelsa or Akwaibom, he barely won Cross River, and he lost Rivers, say all you want, you can only rig where the people allow it. No one could rig against GEJ in SE because we wouldn't allow it .

At what point will you IPOB people snap out of your delusions and finally smell the coffee? Just because you wish things, does not make them so.
If the aim of independence from Nigeria is for the Igbo to have a healthy space thereafter, why then do you want to entangle us with Igbo resentful minorities?

What is wrong with you lots? Think better!

And it's ridiculous you are talking about Russia and Crimea.
Our Crimea are the Igboids in SS, I agree they are our misguided brothers and we should find a solution for that.
But you see the non Igboids? We have to flung them as far away as possible. That's the way forward .
Unless you are nursing ambitions of forcefully annexing them into your future country, which makes you a hypocrite and which is stupid anyways because most of them can see through you IPOBS and will resist you. And even if you succeed, what sort of useless country will that be? A country where you are holding people at gun point to be part of your country, is that the kind of Biafra you IPOB a planning? That's Nigeria 2.0, if anything, Nigeria should have thought you that forced union will never produce an economically stable country. Wake up! Your Biafra with Minorities of 1967-70 was a big mistake, it's ridiculous wanting to repeat same mistake over again.

Reasonable Igbos like myself want t peaceful Igbo only country. Without any minority in it, a true organic and ethnically homogenous nation comprising of all Igbo speaking groups in SS, SE and NC
That's what we should be working on like Catalonia is doing in Spain, not this delusional plans of babelian Biafra.

What's your point?
Awolowo is the father of tribal politics, he never made it a secret that an Igbo man shouldn't be heading western region.
Awolowo motivation was purely tribal .

The intrigues that led to Eyo ita ousting were purely internal party rumbling. Eyo Ita was not ousted by Zik, Zik never had such power.
Eyo Ita simply went against Party policy alongside others including Igbos, they were expelled from the party, they formed a new party and they lost in the end.

Eyo Ita was a normal Nigerian especially APC politician that will compromise national well being to achieve or maintain personal luxury ..
I'm not surprised you are ing him, you are ing Tinubu who rigged , forged documents, and had to be protected by the West in exchange for him to cripple Nigerian economy, render our economy useless, send millions of us outside the country working all types of undignified ( I saw videos of Nigerian ladies in Libya and Iraq working as house helps for peanuts to Arab rich homes) and skilled labours in foreign countries.

With your long epistle yet you couldn't address to my question.

How is it possible for everybody to be wrong about una when they have all be saying same thing

Competing is different from having gluttony about how others run their affairs

Eyo Ita was a great man.

Zik did what he had to do and so did Eyo Ita. All is fair in love and politics.

A simple look at those who backed Eyo Ita against Zik will show the non tribal nature of the East. Eyo ita was backed by E.I Oli( an Igbo) S.j una( ogoja), R.I uzoma( Igbo) S.W Ubani-Ukoma( Igbo) and S.J Koripoma( Ijaw).

Can you reproduce the letter Zik wrote to Eyo Ita on this matter?
In that letter, Zik cast aspersions on Eyo Ita's entire tribe.
Publish that letter for clarity because what is written is written.
I in university how this matter almost led to a riot in our GST class.
You cannot gaslight us. We know where you are heading and we will not you.

You guys will sit in your dingy bedrooms and concort all sorts of nasty propaganda materials to drive your tribal drivels against the igbos.. You mentioned "the letter". Paste the Dan thing here let's read.. If Zik and Zikists have problems with one Eyo Ita and his movement, it has absolutely nothing to do with igbos and the minorities. You can't make that nebulous leap to accuse everybody of hating on the minorities when you are running so short on facts. Paste it here, let's deal with it.. As if Eyo Ita would have even gotten to be the Premier of the Eastern region without the NCNC and the much maligned igbos..

Pheeeew..

Think bigger...
Concerning the Midwest, please give Dennis Osadebay his credit
Zik did little towards achieving that
Osadebay did the real job
