I just picked something so important in your write up. If you really want to help her, get her a job.... That's a perfect advice, however, some ladies are so pompous that they would even tell you that they can't work under anybody.....
If you look at it as the OP said. I perceived this lady as a pompous lady here but the OP should tell her that he's getting her a job....there's a story of a guy I heard about that got his wife a job without the wife knowing that the salary they are paying her at her work place is coming from her husband. She was employed as Sales manager in a big bakery. She was seen as being lazy in her husband's house and the husband got so frustrated cos he's set her up severally in business but always failing. He got her a job in a bakery and had an agreement that he would be paying her salary but the management of the company shouldn't let anybody or his wife knows about this....he sent money to the bakery company before the month ends and did it consistently for about three years. He discovered that the wife became more business oriented, stop sleeping like a log of wood in the house. House became cleaner and she too became more responsible until after three 3 years when the man now revealed the truth to her. She has a bakery of her own today around Surulere in Lagos and doing so well too.......
kingthreat:
Wrong assumption. Not everyone is an entrepreneur. Most reasons why many businesses fail is because non-business people are running business. And not everyone has an orientation like the Igbos give their young from small on how to do business. If you really want to help her, get her a job. If she rejects both then, the man dating her is not just going to be achieveless, he sentenced himself to damnation

She's right, the money is enough to start a business without renting a shop. I don't know about other states but in Lagos, neighbourhood shops now go between 8-10k per month. Shops in busy areas, bus-stops and market places go for much higher and most landlords ask for 2 years rent upfront. The spending won't be on rent alone, she'll need to furnish the shop with chair, table, counters, shelves etc and make it look attractive to customers. She's only telling you the reality of things but you're here poverty shaming her. You strike me as the toxic abusive husband who will treat your wife like you're doing her a favour by marrying her. How I wish she can open her eyes and see how better she'll be far away from you.
Between you and the OP who is doing the shaming? Una no dey ever get sense

If your mentality is yahoo boys are the only ones seeing money then Bro you are not in a beta environment,
My "mechanic" has over 1m in his , Fact! so whats the problem if not poverty
in 2006 i did diploma in unilag with about 500k paid cash , 19yrs after you think i will give credence to 1m amidst this economic reality
thats why i said upbring and exposure matters alot as to how people view and handle issues.
i dont have 1m in my , but i wont disparage a gurl for saying 1m cant rent and stock a shop inside this economic
Your mechanic won't be stupid enough to say 1m is small money knowing the stress he through everyday to make that money.
Once again all those who are into fraud will say 1m is small money.
Those who sweat and do business value money and will never say such.
It as nothing to do with background ,is just common sense

But Natasha a woman like you was empowering others, how many have you empowered. Ordinary small empowerment can change a person's life totally. So 1M can't rent a shop or do anything at all? So even person wey won sell okrika, frozen food business, even POS can't start with 1M? Then you yourself is a waster in real life.

It depends on which side of lagos and what business. 1m can start a business in lagos. Let's stop all this things we keep talking as if na only una de lagos. It depends totally on those two factors I mentioned above. She is not a good business person. She should have tried to do some analyses and show the guy her thinking. 500k can rent a small shop on some mainland locations and 400k get some products stock while 100k for miscellaneous and she is good to go. Make una no de kill una ers o

Maybe she's uninformed.
Tell her businesses she can actually start with 1m, and see her response.
Maybe the businesses she has in mind or have knowledge of would require above 1m.
An adult that can't brainstorm for business of such amount should never be given soft landing, can a broke man be given that amount and he responds in like manner ? Broke ladies with pride , such ladies that can't brainstorm on an SME from that amount if yiu give them 20 m they will blow up the money

95% of those shops imho are just something the man does to keep his wife occupied. ask any man whose wife has a shop when last they did actual audit of the shop records. in fact if you do it, madam may start to para.
there is no way any such shop can actually grow , especially as there are likely 10 more within a 100m radius
True. The one in my neighbourhood, if you go out now, she might be there. Check again by 1pm and she is closed. And na food item she dey sell. Shey e no go expire?
One time I went to patronise her, her son was pooing in a nylon inside the shop. I never went back again.

I got you but you don't have to start big.....starting a business in a small way gives you the ability to study the business very well, take good of the profit and probably some losses here and there....if you master a small business very well and also make profit, run it for sometime, then you could say I want to expand it..... knowing fully well what the business entails......
WantsandMore:
Youโre looking at 1million with old value. Even the Nigerian budget has been set in 1500 per dollar, ing for inflation, hence 1 million of 2 years ago @ 500 per dollar canโt give you thesame purchasing power with 1 million @ 1500 per dollar. You get me?

Are women like her and u disabled?? Adults that went to school can't make something out of ur lives ...what a shame .... must u depend on a man to be able to make something out of ur lives ?? Did any woman give that her man money to start a business?? This is so shameful that u women are so shameless that u feel entitled to a man's money like u are disabled or illiterates... even disables and illiterates are making millions from the scratch... how can that business even be successful when u didn't make the money urself ... u will end up running it down and still expect the man to recapitalise it ... I really dey shame for u women... that shows that sending women to school is a waste of money ... a father will spend millions training his daughter, onlyvfor her to graduate and now be depending on men to feed or take care of her and her family...an adult woman that's a graduate and not disabled, una no de shame ooo
It is very shameful.
Go to Nigerian universities, women are in majority but will graduate and be begging from one place to another in the name if relationships

1 million cant start a business with shop rent paid? Stay away from these liabilities. What you dont know is hat people ar using shops, real estate, churches , car dealerships, hospitals and other businesses as money laundering fronts. The excessive high price tag is a red flag. Be advised.

My experience is a bit different.
She has money in millions but will never touch it. Will not invest, will not spend, just like to have it accumulating monthly interest. No wahala with that.
But help with home keeping na lie. She will never touch her money to help with anything in the house.
This is putting me in serious debt. If we needed money urgently she can withdraw and LOAN to me. Even if I say itโs her contribution, then all hell will be let loose. She will nag until I repay the LOAN. Iโm really tired.
Iโm Working two jobs yet no savings.
I met your wife's type 'my money is my money and your money is out money ' she wey dey earn 4 digit and ne 7 digits monthly i ran because i new i will be in your shoes eventually in the future if i go in... Relationship scatter, most problem with men is that they don't discuss finances in relationships and marriage before committing to the women they are married to. You are amongst those men.
I can't do anything with a selfish woman, once you can't share with me and expect me to share with you I'm out..I no need high blood pressure God forbid , i love peace with ion.

It pays to start small and grow organically in business. Many new generation businesses are crashing because they want CEO chair and table inside a chop selling noodles and groundnut oil.
There is one in my area. She opens when she likes. I looked towards her shop yesterday and thought to myself, this woman's husband must be rich. ๐๐๐
After a year she will expect the husband to pay shop rent
It's more of lazy mindset rather than the initial capital for the business
