The Ìgbómìnà people, also known as Igboona or Ogboona, are a distinct subgroup of the Yoruba ethnic group, primarily residing in north-central and southwestern Nigeria. They speak the Ìgbómìnà dialect, classified under Central Yoruba, which shares similarities with the Ekiti, Ijesha, and Oyo dialects. Geographic Distribution The Ìgbómìnà inhabit parts of southern Kwara State and northern Osun State. Their traditional homeland includes: Kwara State: Irepodun, Ifelodun, Ilorin East, and Isin Local Government Areas (LGAs). Osun State: Ifedayo and Ila LGAs. Major Ìgbómìnà Settlements In Osun State: Oke-Ila Orangun, Ora, and Ila Orangun. Historical Background According to historical records, Igbaja, one of the prominent Ìgbómìnà towns, was settled in the late 17th or early 18th century. By the early 19th century, the Alafin of Oyo had extended his influence over the region, appointing an Ajele (governor) in Ilorin to oversee his interests.
