The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 polls, Peter Obi, has made a u-turn over his comment on the alleged collapse of the national grid.

Following blackouts experienced in parts of Lagos on Saturday, Obi in a post on X said the incessant fall of the grid which happened 12 times in 2024 has subjected Nigerians to ‘untold setback and hardship.’

He said despite borrowing over $3.23 billion in the last four years to fix its electricity problems, the recurrent occurrences of grid collapse have continued to mar the nation’s power sector.

But he faced backlash from many Nigerians who accused him of not ing issues before reacting to them.

Obi thereafter reversed his stance, saying his initial comment was based on reports from reputable media platforms.

In a follow-up post on X, Obi said he has learnt that there was no grid collapse following clarifications by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on the matter.

“Following my earlier message regarding the alleged collapse of the National Grid, which was based on reports from reputable media platforms, I have since learned that there was no such collapse. Instead, the incident involved the tripping of the Osogbo-Ihovbor and Benin-Omotosho lines, which affected the Lagos axis.
“I appreciate the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for their prompt clarification on the matter
.

“I sincerely hope we will prioritize enhancing our infrastructure in the power sector and remain committed to improving power generation to meet the growing needs of over 200 million Nigerians.”

Earlier, the TCN clarified that the outage was caused by tripping of the Osogbo-Ihovbor and Benin-Omotosho lines indicating that the claims about grid collapse was fake news.

National grid collapse is now a recurring decimal.
I have just read the reports of the collapse of our national grid, just 11 days into the new year.
Most of last year, we faced recurrent national grid collapses. That occurred about 12 times in the year.
The untold setback…

A wise man is he who tarries to speak, prideful in seeking knowledge lest he appears as a fool. Peter Obi lacks this quality, he just wants to feed his online mobs to keep them attacking the Government. Now, that Nigerians are beginning to give him serious backlash, he is gradually getting back his common sense.
Peter Obi should stop leaking his mouth like a basket mouth and get a more sensible media team. The fear of Felix Morka Is the beginning of wisdom.

Obi is the best as there is STRENGTH in acknowledging one's error. Unlike the ones that plunged Nigeria in economic meltdown but refused to own up to their incompetence.

Several media houses reported that the national grid collapsed; OBI simply reacted to a report which was all over the news.

Not surprised that a certain group of lousy individuals are attacking OBI instead of the media houses who published wrong info.

Error prone.

The consequences of 'Talking /Tweeting' too much.

Eventually, you get monotonous and your words hold no water anymore.

There's power in silence sometimes. Peter Obi should try it.

Weekly twits has made him the butt of jokes.
How are we sure oga is not farming on twitter for engagements rating and impressions. 🤣

This Tinubu attack dogs and agbadorians should be wary of how they criticize Obi for his gaffe because there is a 99 percent chance that the grid will actually collapse before the end of January and go on to collapse 20 times in 2025.

So the government needs to get to serious work and prove we "naysayers" and "haters of Nigeria" wrong.

A wise man is one who, when confronted with evidence that his earlier statement was incorrect, promptly adjusts his opinion without hesitation. Additionally, he possesses the humility to acknowledge his mistakes, the courage to embrace the truth, and the discernment to learn and grow from every experience. In this case, Obi did well.

You see that depending on who you ask, this could be interpreted differently to suit a certain narrative.
