Ten red flags đźš© to watch for in fake job offers or interview invitations:

1. Unsolicited : The offer comes out of nowhere, without you applying or even knowing about the company.

2. Poor Grammar and Typos: Emails or messages from reputable companies usually maintain a professional tone, free from excessive grammar mistakes.

3. Unclear Job Description: The job responsibilities are either extremely vague or seem unusually easy for the salary offered.

4. Suspicious Email Address: Offers from generic email addresses (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo) instead of a company domain can indicate a scam.

5. Request for Personal or Financial Information: Legitimate companies don’t ask for sensitive details, like your bank or social security number, early in the process.

6. Unreasonably High Salary or Benefits: If the salary or benefits sound too good to be true for the job requirements, it’s worth questioning.

7. Pressure to Respond Quickly: Scammers may create urgency, pushing you to respond immediately, sign contracts, or provide information without time to consider.

8. Request for Payment: Being asked to pay for training, software, or “processing fees” is a significant red flag.

9. Interview via Messaging Apps: While some companies use video calls, interviews via text or messaging apps (like Telegram or WhatsApp) are unusual for most legitimate employers.

10. Inconsistent Company Details: Check the company’s website, LinkedIn, and other official profiles. If the information, logo, or employees listed are inconsistent with what’s being presented, it may be fake.

I can relate ..

People should be writing the names of the organizations they know are scam..

One day like that I just received an email out of the blue , that one London real estate academy is inviting me for an interview, I check all the jobs I applied for , nothing like that and they have a legit website and everything. Another red flag when we begin the interview they off their camera , it was a virtual interview, I couldn’t see them .Another red flag is that in the first mail they sent me , they didn’t mention the name of their company. As I begin talking and mentioning the name of their organization I noticed that they are not comfortable they didn’t know I have email the person that invited me for the interview asking for the name of their organization . They quickly said there’s an error somewhere and they said goodbye .

E no go better for them wherever they are right now .

If Nairalanders don't really have any idea about the company, it is most likely a scam.

Do your due diligence, try and check if their staff have professional presence online like LinkedIn.

Inform people you are going for an interview, give people their address and the number(s) they provided.
