Nigerian Air Force Boosts Combat Power with New Jets and Helicopters, SECURITYNEWSNG.COM reports.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is set to enhance its combat capabilities with the acquisition of 24 M-346 Fighter Ground Attack jets and 12 AW-109 Trekker helicopters. Led by Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, a team of NAF experts and officials from the Ministries of Defence and Finance recently met with Italian aerospace company, Leonardo S.p.A., to finalize the procurement.

 Key Developments:

- Delivery Schedule: The first three M-346 jets are expected to arrive in Nigeria by early 2025, with subsequent deliveries continuing until mid-2026.
- Additional Helicopters: Ten more AW-109 Trekker helicopters will the two already procured, bolstering combat roles.
- Maintenance Hub:  Air Marshal Abubakar stressed the need for a maintenance hub in Nigeria to provide long-term for the M-346 fleet.
-  Aerial Display: The Leonardo Aircraft Division showcased the M-346's advanced features and performance capabilities.

 Strategic Partnerships:

Air Marshal Abubakar met with top executives at Leonardo's Rome headquarters to solidify a long-term partnership between the NAF and the company. This collaboration aims to enhance the NAF's operational readiness and effectiveness.

 Fleet Renewal:

The M-346 and AW-109 Trekker acquisitions align with the CAS Command Philosophy, focusing on fleet renewal and optimization for greater agility and resilience. These additions will significantly strengthen Nigeria's air combat capabilities and various combat roles.

With these new acquisitions, the Nigerian Air Force is poised to take its combat power to the next level, ensuring enhanced operational effectiveness and national security.

Flooding the Nigerian Airspace with first generation and second generation antique "fighters" and "bombers", when all other countries that started with us are going for the fifth generation war planes, is becoming very irritatingly annoying. These things add to air pollution! All these fanfare for some scrap metals already designated as "monuments" in some western and Asian military museums? We can surely do better!

I think that the Nigerian military has suffered immeasurably, as it constantly focuses on internal insurrectionists. This has led to a situation where the military high command, seem to caliberate her operational standards based on realities associated with internal challenges, and has as a result forgotten to prepare effectively, a more sophisticated and capable military organisation, able to withstand a very dangerous foreign enemy.

I mean, can you fight the Iranians, Russians, Pakistanis, or even the Egyptians, with these wretched relics? Lets not bring the French or Chinese or even Brazilians into it.

Enhance investments in cutting-edge cyber technology to strengthen digital security and intelligence gathering.
Implement call monitoring systems to intercept and analyze communications for early threat detection.
Deploy robust transaction tracking tools to uncover financial patterns, identify suspicious activities, and disrupt illicit funding streams.
Expand the fleet of drones to improve aerial surveillance, reconnaissance, and real-time monitoring capabilities in challenging terrains.
Adopt advanced geolocation and tracking solutions to precisely locate targets, enhance situational awareness, and facilitate rapid response operations.

Worry not yourself, we are not enemy of any nation. So far they are equipped enough to fight official terrorist organizations in Nigeria like ipob and Boko Haram, it is ok.

Those are sleek looking little fighter jets that look capable of adaptation to their primary role of ground attack.

They remind one of a scaled-down F16 fighter jet.
