Good morning Nairalands
After my never ending fuel gulping battle with my Toyota Camry, I later ended up buying a 2012 Toyota Corolla.
I went with my mechanic to a car stand to get it, when we got there we saw different kinds/types of corolla. My mechanic told me some are 1.8l engine while others are 2.0l and a lot of the corolla uses venza engine.
I wanted to buy any of the corolla of 1.8L engine but my mechanic told me that they're old model, that I should get a recent corolla with Venza engine, but I refused when I heard the word "venza engine"
I told my mechanic that over my dead body will I jump from frying pan to fire, from Camry to Venza. I said so because since the corolla is using Venza engine, it'd surely gulp up fuel like Venza, which would be a lot worst than a camry.
But my mechanic assured me that what I said is very false, that it won't. That a corolla is a corolla and corollas doesn't eat fuel.
His words really calmed me down and I bought the 2012 corolla.
So I bought 8k fuel to test the fuel usage and see how long it'd last, I know I should have bought more, but I needed to get a faster result.
Well, it turns out that my mechanic tricked me and I'm in so much pains right now, my 8k fuel only went for 31km before the fuel got exhausted, I later realized that I was very much right and shouldn't have listened to my mechanic that a corolla is a corolla, venza engine or small 1.8L engine.
From my observation, it seems the 2012 corolla is gulping up fuel like a venza. Yesterday, I took it to a mechanic and asked them to fix anything that'd make the car to gulp up fuel, they changed the plugs, cleaned the filter, I will be testing it today with another 8k fuel, I pray and I hope that it won't be as bad as it was yesterday, because I'm so depressed right now, after what my camry did to me which made me went for a corolla, now I'm having same issue with my corolla. I'm really so down right now.
How much did you buy this Toyota Corolla 2012?
Your problem started with your moniker (blind angel). Change it and everything will be fine with you in the future.

Have you check the Catalyst? that maybe the problem cuz some of these car dealers u can't trust them on Catalyst ooo.
From the sound of the car, it does not have catalyst, but some mechanics has told me that catalyst does not affect fuel consumption, I'd have put it already on the car.
Another fear is the mechanic that'd be going with me to get it, ripping me off, because I don't know how it seems/look like.

If You Want To Buy Motor, Go To BENIN City In Edo State And Thank MR BLOGGER much later.
Better Sell Off, that Corolla Car Now And Get Better Corolla Car That has Catalyst Inside, It helps To save fuel consumption in Corolla Car
What if I look for the catalyst, buy it and install it on the car, will that be OK? Because I can do that today.

Ogbeni, check and be sure the thermostat is intact. Also scoop the tailpipe with your finger and see if you have soot..
It has extremely dark soot, very dark.
Where can I locate the thermostat in a car?

Bro and his mechanic doesn't know about cars
I know venza uses 2.5 2.7L engines on the 4 cylinders and a 3.5L on the V6, and a 2012 Toyota corrola has a 1.8L L4 engine.
So I don't know where he pulled out his whole write up from.
Even the rare XRS version uses a 2.4l block which is used on the camry, not venza.
Just wait, I will snap the engine this morning and tag you. You'll see for yourself that it's a venza engine.

Impossible.
Only highlander and venza can share engine.
Plus maybe hilux and fortuner.
No corolla will be able to use a venza engine.
Camry’s from 2012 use Venza engine

You should be specific
All these corolla engine venza engine is half information
Engines have their model numbers
and it's not only one engine that's in all Venzas
It depends on the year.
Is it the 2AR engine u mean?
Even the 8k fuel is half info
How many litres did u get from the 8k
Clearly, Op doesn’t know much about cars. No Corolla runs on a 1AR-FE(Venza engine)…neither does any Corolla run on a 2AR-FE(Camry engine).

You’re mistaken. The Camry’s i4 engine is very identical to the Venza’s i4 engine. The Camry’s i4 engine is 2.5L, while that of the Venza is 2.7L..(slightly bigger)….
Ps: Both vehicles use the same type of engine, for the v6 variants.

my matrix almost killed me before I attended to it.car was consuming fuel more than a tundra. All I did was change the exhaust sensor and that’s it.the two cost me 30k.Car is so efficient now.

OP. BROS YOUR MECHO NA SCAMMER. I'M NOT SUPRISE BECAUSE EVERY MECHO LOVES A NEW CAR OWNER( AN OPPORTUNITY OF GETTING CLOSE IN COMPLETING THAT LOCAL HOUSE IN IFO, IKORODU, ATAN, SANGO OR LUSADA).
OP, YOUR CAR CATALYST IS MISSING, HENCE THE REASON FOR p0138, p0141 etc..
IT'S KINDA RARE TO HAVE BOTH AIR/FUEL RATIO SENSOR(BANK 1) AND OXYGEN SENSOR(BANK 2) FAULTY SAME TIME. FIX YOUR CATALYST FIRST OR BETTER STILL, GO BUY SPACER WITH BUILT IN CATALYST IF YOU NO GET MONEY. THEY'RE CHEAPER AND WORKS ALSO IF YOU GET THE RIGHT ONE.
AND AS FOR YOUR SPEEDOMETER GUAGE/CLUSTER, CHECK IF YOUR BRAKE AND ABS LIGHT IS ON ON YOUR DASHBOARD. IF ON, THEN YOUR ABS MODULE IS BAD.
THE FIX FOR IT IS TO CHANGE THE MODULE SENSOR ONLY. IT'S EASY TO CHANGE BUT I DOUBT YOU SCAMMER MECHO GO FIT DO AM.
SHA CHANGE YOU MECHO, NA SCAMMER
IT'S OBVIOUS HE'S WORKING WITH SCAMMER /SCANNER MAN TO RIP YOU. THEIR BELIEVE BE SAY YOU JUST BUY MOTOR SO MONEY DEY YOUR HAND.
This is what the scanner man told me needs to be changed, my mechanic has gotten price from the seller and it's 93,000 naira, we're going to get it today. I'm going with him so I will confirm it myself at the shop, if it's truly 93,000.

YOu took a thief or a roadside mechanic to buy a car,.You sir need to do a bit of reading about the car you drive to get 1st hand information about the car so you can make an informed decision .These days of the internet should have cleared these type of mistake.
Cars consume fuel according to their engine displacement irrespective of the brand, I struggle to understand how A corolla bearing a 2.0L engine is fuel efficient than a VW gulf with a 1.6L Engine. just cos its a toyota.
I tire for that guy, imagine the mechanic even dey run am street on top ordinary common oxygen sensor.
Guys dey try reason am some scope but he is adamant on doing what he wants.

GerogeI:
First, you should understand that every engine is identified by model number. Not street Mechanic slangs like Venza Engine. Use your car VIN to get detail of your car including engine model and trim online. That will also tell you if the engine has been swapped out, by crosschecking the physical engine.
2. Stop getting mechanics to fiddle with your car, yo will end up with badly tuned car.
3. Nothing wrong with your bank 1(front) and bank 2 (back) oxygen sensors. If your catalyst is missing, engine ECU or computer will be seeing it as faulty bank 2 oxygen sensor. This affects how much fuel your injector sprays into the engine. Infact, most mechanics will even cut the wires to bank 2 oxygen sensors once the catalyst is removed, leaving you ECU running in default setting.
There are several tables or guides stored in your ECU computer which tells it how much fuel to use based on reports from rear O2 sensor. Whenever it is not seeing sensible report from this sensor it assumes something is wrong and uses a default table which will run the engine in an inefficient fuel rich mode, but with enough power such that you may assume nothing is wrong. It's like operating your car with carburettors, and loosing the efficency brought by computer controlled injectors. The only way to fix this problem is to replace your catalyst. If you can't, drive the car as it is because the only other way is to re-programmed the ecu with your own tables which will not be efficient and cost way more than a catalyst. Note- that your scanner guy cannot reprogrammed ECUs. Yankee peeps who do sell them as costly custome ECUs on ebay. And it will still require a catalyst.
So go buy a replacement catalyst. No modern car using computer controlled injection and ignition can run fuel efficiently without catalyst, it is just impossible.
To scan your car yourself, buy a Bluetooth ELM 327 OBD2 scanner, the app on your smart phone and scan your car. Some guy based in a plaza in Ikeja Ogba sells it on Jiji.
I would have bought the catalyst long ago, but some mechanic I have net told me that it doesn't matter on fuel consumption, while some said that it does matters.
Another reason I'm scared is that I don't know how it looks like, I really wish to get the original, but the mechanic and seller must surely combine to cheat me, that's my other fear. If not, I'll ready to get and fix it today.
Sir, is this scanner okay?
So I can place order right away.
