In a 3-days training program for Legislative Aides of the 10th National Assembly, themed, 'Building the capacity and enhancing the performance of Legislative Aides', for LA II cadre, which was organized by the National Assembly in partnership with the Research Enterprise Systems Limited, held at A-Class Multipurpose Hall, Maitama, Abuja from Monday, 9th to Wednesday 11th September, 2024, High Chief, Barr. Emeka Nwala, who is the Chairman of National Assembly Legislative Aides Forum, (NASSLAF) in a closing remark thanked the organizers of the program.

Nwala said they'll keep improving in subsequent training. He encouraged Aides to use the right structures put in place like the Executive, CWC, and stakeholders to vent their reservations and observations, if any, regarding the training, rather than coming on Whatsapp groups to cause chaos.

Nwala while speaking, thanked the Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Magaji Tambuwal, FCNA, his Deputy and resource person, Professor Fatai A. Aremu, the Executive Director Research Enterprise Systems, who against all odds, made sure the LA II cadre got quality bags, which were flown in from Dubai, not minding the increased cost, as against the initial plan of conveying the bags through ship.

Nwala opined that he would continue to do his best in ensuring Aides got all their entitlements and welfare packages as at when due. He onished Aides to cross their Ts and dot their Is by rechecking their names and numbers to avoid any form of mistakes which will lead to some not receiving their training allowance. Nwala advised them not to use their hands to cause problems for themselves by ensuring they do the right thing.

Concerning the non-payment of First-28-days of Management Aides, Nwala reiterated that he has officially written letters to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives and also met and spoke with the Chairman of the National Assembly Commission over the weekend, the Chairman of NASC assured him that something will be done regarding payment of those who haven't been paid.

The joy and iration of Legislative Aides knew no bounds, when Barr. Nwala announced that the New Minimum Wage will be paid alongside the parliamentary staff, whenever the Federal Government starts its implementation. Nwala noted that the role of Legislative Aides is so pivotal to the success and progress of the National Assembly and as such, they shouldn't be treated as second class citizens. Whatever entitlements permanent staff gets, they (NASS Aides) will get too.

Finally, Nwala promised that the 35,000 naira Wage Award will also be paid to Aides. He reaffirmed that wherever the money is, it will be smoked out to ensure Aides gets what's due to them. He emphasized that he will work harmoniously with all the leaders and organs of the National Assembly to bring smiles on the faces of Aides.

"We will keep improving. If there are lapses, you let us know. You shouldn't hit up the platform. There's the training committee, we have the Executive, CWC and stakeholders, you can channel anything you want to do to all these organizations or chapters for us to make amends.

"I will first of all, thank the CNA who has approved this training alongside the training committee which I am a member of, chaired by the DCNA, who always gives me the chance to choose or to know what's best for us. I thank him so much and thank most especially the resource person here who by virtue of what he has done for us to get our bags. Instead of waiting for the ship, he flew your bags. An applause to him. We Southerners know how we want to make gain, because if you bring in goods through flight, it costs more than when you bring them in through the ship.

"So, we are lucky as LA II to get a Dubai bag than the LA I. It was just circumstances beyond certain control, but like I said we will keep improving and by next year Insha Allah, what we will witness in of training, you will forget this one.

"We will continue to do our best and before you leave, you have the right to continue to cross-check your names and numbers. Some people don't know their number again. You will go there and see so many alterations. Now they've paid the last training of LA I today and we have similar one or two cases who have not yet been paid. It is because of all these problems. So, before you leave now, you are at liberty to check and cross-check the number again, so, that not when others receive, you will start hitting the platform that you haven't been paid.

"Please, let us not cause problems for ourselves. Check and recheck that's why I went round by myself and I have seen some alterations and mistakes.

"I thank you for enjoying yourself and the training, of there other things you let us know for us to make amends. We're here to channel all our problems and all of our problems must be solved.

"Management Aides pushed for payment of their first-28-days, we have communicated with the President of the Senate. Over the weekend, I was with the Chairman of the Commission, I spoke with him on that and he has assured and agreed to do something in that respect.

"He also promised me that whenever they start paying the new minimum wage, it will start alongside the permanent staff. It is no longer when they eat ours will come later, because for me, without Legislators and Legislative Aides, there won't be permanent staff. We are the main people, without us, they'll find their way to the other ministries.

"So, as they are preparing theirs, they're also preparing our own. Even the issue of 35,000 naira wage award, it can't go, it hasn't gone. We will smoke out the money wherever it is and it must be paid. We will channel all these things to Chairman of Commission, because they're our regulators, they're going to ensure that all these are going to be done.

"So, keep faith and make sure that you cooperate with us. I thank everybody and I thank the that has been working tirelessly to ensure everything is working fine. Thank you all." Nwala asserted
