I honestly think you should wait a bit
I'm also stuck on pre-approval (for a while now) and my resumption is 13th of january too.
Once you pre-approval, you can always get emergency date. Fingers crossed.

Hello everyone,

I need your advice regarding a deferral request and my visa process. My visa appointment has been planning on Preapproval request is being processed. for a month now, and my school is resuming on January 13. I’m planning to request a deferral to a later semester.

However, I’ve already ed my current I-20 to the visa portal, but I haven’t booked an appointment yet. Should I restart the visa application process by ing the new I-20 when it’s issued? Also, could you guide me on the steps to successfully request the deferral from the school

Thanks in advance for your help

My visa got denied at Abuja embassy Nov 6 7:30am and I want you guys to check it out and tell me if there is any fault so I can prepare well for my next interview next month … she approved 2 visiting visa right because me .

Me: Good morning (smiled while talking)
Vo: good morning and how are you today?
Me: replied I’m fine and you? And we both exchanged a little smile

Vo: so are you married?
Me: No, but I have a fiancé which we’re planning to get married as soon as I return

Vo: okay, so why Jackson state university?
Me: so aside from the political science program and it’s concentration which matches my interest, I discovered an ongoing research work by Dr Phillip at the department on the effect of grassroots movement on policy change in developing countries, moreso this topic resonates with my interest in understanding how local activism can drive political reforms which will be really helpful to Nigeria when I return whereby the citizens can be directly involved in policy making and governance as a whole

Vo: so what’s your plan after graduating?
Me: after completing my masters degree in political science, I intend to return back to Nigeria to utilize the skills and knowledge I have gained in the US particularly about African politics to create a well organized and reform political ideology here in Nigeria

Vo: who is sponsoring you?
Me: my Daddy

Vo:So have you ever travelled before?
Me: No

Vo: have your parents travelled before?
me: no

Vo: so do you have any siblings in the US
me: No

Then she handed me the blue abi na yellow paper I go call and then she said unfortunately we won’t be approving your visa … please can you tell me where the error is guys and also I actually have a sister in the US but I felt I should say no so they won’t deny me cos she also got a student visa in 2019 and she is already a citizen and a soldier self but I felt if I say yes it will hurt my chances of getting a visa cos she didn’t return back .. but if you guys feel there is another reason for my denial please tell me because I’m preparing for another visa interview in few days and do you think I should say I have a sister there and I hope me saying no before won’t get my visa denied again if I say yes this time around

Please can you guys just help me out cos I’m still confused, does anyone knows anyone that has a siblings in the US but still said No in their DS 160 and was approved so I can just stick to the No and if you think I should change it back to yes, is there anything I can say to defend why I said No before please, I’m stocked and my next visa interview is in few days so I need to submit my Ds 160 asap

I won't recommend changing any information that was on your previous DS-160. That's like you shouting, "Deny me!"

If you have siblings in the US, its good to say the truth, It will not stop your visa from being approved. The only problem you have here is that you said you did not have a sibling before and now you will now declare that you have a sibling, so they will know that you lied before. a lawyer to advise you or Argo visa (Former USA visa officers).

From you transcript, I think the issue you have is your plans after graduating, the generic answer on why you choose your uni, and also expatiate on what you dad does during your next interview. I wish you the best in your next interview. Please also note that sometimes the decision is very subjective, so if you try again with another visa officer, you may be lucky.

The reason I want to request this is that the enrollment deposit deadline is December 1, and I can't pay it until I secure a visa appointment. That's why I need advice before taking any steps

Good afternoon guys. Please I need directions.

I want to book my appointment date through the Coted'Ivoire embassy and more importantly so I could also request an expedited date.

Now the challenge is, for Cote d'Ivoire, the conditions are that one must be a

resident or
a citizen

to qualify for an F1 expedited date.

Whereas those conditions are not that stringent in Nigeria and my sole aim is just to be able to apply and request for an expedited date as my school resumes in January 2025

So, please anyone with suggestions on the best option in this regard?

My main question to you is what has changed in your profile since your denial? Did you get any funding or you are still going with your daddy story? That should be your number 1 priority before you attend another interview. Also has your answers be more refined than the generic ones you gave the last time?

Regarding your siblings, everybody has given advice on why you should/shouldn’t declare them. It’s left to you to pick which of the advice you deem fit. That’s the logic behind advice for you to make a choice not expecting someone to make the choice for you. Even thou we disagree with the opinions, that is how life operates, you are the sole decision maker in this.

All the best in your interview

I dont think that was the reason you were denied, i have two brothers in the state and i filled no and was still approved.

Blackfinegirl:

You will get a mail that your port is ready and also a link. Click on the link to schedule an appointment to pick up your port either at OIS or DHL. This is what I did for abuja, I don't know how lag's own is. If your visa was issued today, you should get a mail tomorrow hopefully.

Congratulations on your visa.

Do you mean approved or issued?

If it has been issued, then use this ois link to check if your port is with them

https://appointment.oisservices.com/

If your port is with ois, then book an appointment to pick up.

Should I pick yes or no

Of course yes, if you’re Yoruba, say it, if you’re any other tribe , say it.

Though, that doesn’t really matter.

Thanks for sharing your visa interview experience. I can sense your frustration, but don't worry, let's break it down and prepare for your next attempt.

Honestly, your answers seemed solid, and you showcased your ion for the program. However, a few things might've raised concerns:

*Travel History*: Not having traveled before isn't a deal-breaker, but be prepared to discuss how this experience will broaden your horizons. Highlight any relevant local or national conferences, workshops, or volunteer work.

*Sibling in the US*: Initially hiding this info might've raised red flags. Next time, be upfront and explain your sibling's presence. Clarify how their citizenship doesn't guarantee your stay.

*Financial Documentation*: Ensure you have thorough records of your dad's sponsorship commitment, including:

- Bank statements
- Tax returns
- Proof of income
- A detailed breakdown of expenses

For your next interview:

1. *Be open and honest*: Share your sibling's presence and explain any initial hesitation.
2. *Highlight Nigerian ties*: Emphasize family, property, business, or community connections.
3. *Financial preparedness*: Bring detailed documents and explain your dad's sponsorship.
4. *Dress professionally*: Make a great first impression!
5. *Practice common questions*: Build confidence and clarity.
6. *Stay calm and genuine*: , honesty shines through!

Work on these areas, and you'll increase your chances. You've already taken the first step by sharing your experience. Learn from it, and come back stronger! Good luck with your next interview

Thanks sis! Congratulations on your visa

What people don’t realize is that student f1 experience is different from visiting B1/B2. I would never visit visiting visa thread and give advice because I don’t know anything about it.

Me advising against listing your USA siblings in your application in F1 is totally different for folks in B1/B2 because that is their main point that strengthens their application. So you see why it’s best to tailor advice based on the type of visa.

Please drop your questions here so we can all weigh in. I don’t want private conversations. Thanks

Did you apply for an F1 visa? And were you asked during your interview if you had siblings there except you just writing it on your Ds 160
