I stay in Aba. The hype that came with the commissioning of geometric has not lived up to expectation. Only few areas who are in the minority are enjoying regular power supply from geometric power station while the rest are under epileptic supply sourced via TCN.

About two weeks I went to a place near Ngwa road, Ogwo road, I noticed that Aba power has started free mass metering in areas that have been connected to geometric.

My observation is that DISCOs will not generate much revenue if all customers have prepaid meters when the power is epileptic and insufficent. They prefer estimated billing, because they can generate revenue for supplying darkness. But if power is sufficient and stable, they will do free mass metering to generate much revenue.

There are 3 shops in our compound that share a prepaid meter. About a month ago, their balance was 4.10kwh. The credit has not exhausted because of poor supply. If it was estimated bill, they would have spent 10,000 in just 2 months.

are you just realising this? they make more money supplying blackouts and darkness to consumers. all the discos are agent of darkness, they are nothing but just distribution companies remove the electricity in their acronym.

The power sector merely became private on the surface, deep down it is still a public affairs as far as running it is concerned.
Area boys don't mess with MTN or Airtel mast but can mess with transformers just to levy their area for money.

I'm of strong opinion that if they can meter most households, and generate stable electricity, Discos will make a whole lot of money as people will always recharge and pay their bills when they're sure it will get them the services they're paying for.

When you see that your neighbour has paid and has light, you would want to pay as quickly as possible to get yours. That's just the way it is.

The parts of my state with steady light use meters and a far cry from the parts that don't use it and are on estimated billing.

I was surprised seeing that figure of 10k too...
FG should force those Discos to provide metres for their customers, some people claimed they have paid or ready to pay but no metre, its just somehow,, and they keep bringing estimated bills

Welcome to the club. DISCOs have capacity to distribute prepaid meters to all their customers, forget about any reasonable sounding excuse they might give but it's much more lucrative making money through estimated billing without enforced consequences

So if they write 50k for estimated bill, you will pay all?

I didn't say the bill will be 5k per month. Whatever the amount written there, we paid 5k when we were still on estimated.

Anyone that pays in full, na em sabi.

Our power supply here is quite poor and it actually became worse when a lot of houses installed prepaid meters due to over billing and harassment from their officials. I actually went to get mine and they told me it was unavailable and hasn't been for sometime, I laughed cause I knew it was intentional. These agencies behave fraudulently and our government which is supposed to protect the interest of it's people, collude with them for selfish gains which is quite unfortunate.

Let me surprise you here, in my area I have been spending 2,000 naira per month consistently on electricity token for the past 6 months. With epileptic power supply and load shedding of "one day on, one day off" and some times we dont even get the light on the day on. And from my findings around my area, I am an above average consumer as some hardly consume 1 thousand naira worth of token per month. The surprise here is that the consumers on estimated billings are billed 20,000 naira. I don't know how the disco come about these estimates, estimated billing is a rip off and the regulator is the enabler

This is everywhere. I went to one estate in Lagos. When I saw their bill. It was shocking. Over 40k for two bedroom flat while three bedrooms in adjacent street with pre paid meter doesn't cost up to 20k.

Nah corruption

You don't get the point. Nigerians have never shied away from meeting the costs of electricity supply. The reason metering is bad news to the discos hinges fully on their incompetence. As such, we pay them for their inherited incompetence and death-bed innovations in maintaining power supply. As long as we pay for services that are not delivered as we do for those delivered we are funding a lazy, worthless, unreliable business empire that would crash in seconds when they meet competition. Op is on point.

Shame of NERC they shame me!
Se,Una just de know this and since GEJ -sold the NEPA to his Political Collaborators called DISCOS but Chased away Experts like General Electric, etc because those White don't want to Bribe - Corruption has finished Nigeria!
Their intentions ( buyers of DISCOS) was never to give 24/7 Lights but just like any other failed Institutions in Nigeria, get to where quick Money can be made- without any improvement!
The World has since moved - with Ghana and Benin-Republic Not using Generators Again!
Unless these DISCOS are liquidated or are taken over by the Federal Govt and Pay the Owners Off, Nothing can be achieved here!
This is not the way to Our Industilisation! The Present Disco don't have the Structure nor ready to Change!
Failed MDAs everywhere!

You can't even pretend for once to be sane.

Well, i prefer estimated billing to prepaid. My bill is not much. I pay like 10k. I get to use my ACs and energy consuming appliances.
