People should just understand that once you are given a quit notice, just prepare your mind to leave that apartment

Forget about all this drama

Its not your family house, so be prepared to leave anytime

That's why you have to be living in a rented apartment that you can afford to pay rent and in cases like this, use the next rent to pay for another apartment

I know that it's not easy but like I said, live within your income because of cases like this

Most landlords do this when they want to increase the rent..

You people (the tenants) should try and him if you can, to have a meeting with him to really know why he's doing this..

If he insists on you leaving.. start looking for another apartment 3 months to the end of your rent expiry.. no biggie

You might even be lucky to get an apartment better and more affordable than this one..

I have had a personal experience like this one before.. I took it as a challenge to move to a bigger better place.. I was a bit lucky tho..

If the landlord is ready for you, you will pay for every day you spend in his property.

A notice to quit is given when your rent is still in effect not after expiry.

It basically means, “use the remaining 6 months on your tenancy to find a new place”. If you stay one day extra, then you are automatically owing one day rent and your landlord can recover that money.

Don’t try to stay for free in another person’s house. Tenancy law does not allow you to do that.

Na lie. No tenancy case last that much. And pray say no be me be your landlord, cause I will increase your rent to double the amount, the moment you no commot after the expiration of your
rent.

No matter how long you drag the case, the Court will make you pay your outstanding rent in full. At the end of the day, na you go suffer am.

The lawyer called me today requesting a meeting. He said though they want to renovate the house they were not ready to evict anyone.
We're looking at alternatives of where to put items and other things during renovations.

Rent is crazy , reason I'm very sceptical
By the time you put together agency and agreement and commission and al those nonsense money we'd be looking at millions for a mini flat

Reason I'm just being worried..

The truth is, many Nigerians are very ignorant and refuse to be enlightened, that's why people take advantage of them anyhow.

bross let me be honest with you, the landlord is very fair, he has given you 6 months notice, that's half of your tenancy agreement, Six months is enough to make arrangement to move out..it would be better to move out in good blood than bad blood. Moving out is not the end of the world, it might just be the kick start you need for you to start building your own home.

The 6 months' notice actually covers his rent period which is only accepted by people that doesn't know their rights, the notice should start from the expiration of his rent and not in between his rent.


Absolutely correct 💯, you cannot use his rent period to serve him quit notice he is entitled to enjoy the rent in peace, at the expiration of his rent you can serve him notice of r 6 months for a yearly rental tenant

Same thing we are facing here.
Rent expires by 31st December 2024 but the new landlord gave us 6 months to quit.

Once them give you notice prior 6month to your rent expiration! If you try extend it to another 3month after your rent expire, you go pay for that 3 month and you must to park your load or tribunal go help you park your load go under bridge

The landlord doesn't need to provide a justification in the notice.

He has an inherent right to let or cease to let HIS property. In order to ensure balance and give you, the tenant, sufficient time to seek alternative accommodation, the law requires the landlord to give you at leat 6 months notice.

The landlord respects the law and has given you the required notice.

It is now your turn to do one of the following:

1. Get accommodation elsewhere and leave on or before 31st November, or

2. Pay a lawyer and make a claim in court that the landlord has no right to get his property back and tell the Court your reasons.

Most people will take option 1, and let peace reign in their life and the landlord's.

Una go dey talk wetin una nor know, if someone goes by the proper channel you will be evicted. Once you are served notice to increase rent, the option would be A Pay or B move out if you dont pay, then the court can order you to move out and if you refuse the beliefs move in.and they can take your property to storage and you will have to pay for it,This all can be done within 6 months

Read the post again, He has 6 months notice meaning 6 months b4 his rent expires. Best option is to negotiate with landlord, for him to allow him move his stuff while renovation is going on then move back in but ofcos me and you know rent is going to increase!
