Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), says President Bola Tinubu deserves commendation for directing the full implementation of the Oronsaye report.

In a chat with TheCable, Adegboruwa said there is too much wastage within the bureaucracy which requires urgent curtailing, especially in this era of technological advancement.

He, however, advised the president to go one better by reducing the size of his cabinet, which he described as “too unwieldy”.

“I must commend him for the courage to implement that report. There is too much wastage within the bureaucracy and especially now in the deployment of technology,” he said

There is a lot that can be achieved through such harmonisation. But the president must start the implementation from his cabinet. Charity should begin at home.

“The size of the present cabinet is unwieldy. For him to embark on the implementation of Oronsaye report concerning other agencies, and leaving the presidency in the bloated manner it is, will not achieve the desired purpose.

“The president should set the good example by merging all those ministries that have no impact".

The president should also cut the number of aides that follow him on official trips. That is the right message to send to the people of Nigeria.”

In August 2023, President Tinubu set the record for the highest number of ministerial nominees in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic (1999 to date), after sending 47 names to the senate for screening.

Tinubu’s 47 nominees was five ministerial nominees more than the 42 appointed by former president Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

Also speaking on the Oronsaye report implementation directive, Daniel Bwala, former spokesperson of the Atiku/Okowa presidential campaign organisation, said President Tinubu’s reforms will put Nigeria on the map of global powers.

In a tweet on his official X handle, the lawyer commended the president for summoning the courage for the implementation of the report which recommends the merging, scrapping or relocation of several agencies of government.

“This president @officialABAT is not only a listening President, but a proactive and visionary one. By adopting and approving the full implementation of the Oronsaye’s report with dateline and timelines, he is committed to cutting the cost of governance,” Bwala wrote.

“He is doing what others dream of but couldn’t summon the courage to embark upon them, because of the fear of failure or backlash.

“His reform plans will put Nigeria on the map of global powers with time.”

True. The rationalisation and cost saving must start from the top. The government must be seen to be serious.

Double edged sword...

Many will loose their jobs.

If you ask me... The pros outweigh the cons.

I only wish President Tinubu can do more to cushion the effects of the implementation!

That's what someone who is intentional about changing things would consider.

Appointed the largest government in history of Nigeria and all of a sudden nine months later, Orasanye Report is now the magic word to defuse tension. The other time, it was the concept of STATE POLICE that was used.

If the President is serious, he should drastically reduce the number of senior advisers, junior advisers and special assistants appointed for the president, VP and the first lady who have nothing to do with Orasanye report and who are still in office drawing salaries and allowances.

Scrap the new ministries he created that are idle and set the standard number of official aides a minister should have.

Mandate thief is sitting on a stolen mandate and so can never do the right thing. Nigerian civil service is made up of at least 70% Hausa and Yoruba. Implementation of Orosanye report means at least 40% of civil servants are going to be sacked in the next few months from the affected agencies that will be scrapped , dumped into the already saturated, depressed labor market and those salaries that would no longer be paid to them will as tinubu’s savings…smh

Not only reduce the size of his cabinet, he should also reduce their fat salaries...

Majority of them collect almost x100 of the pension of almost 200 retired civil servant....

You have said it all.

These govt only thrives on propaganda that the real issues. I don tire.

The state police thing has died down. By now, I thought the National Assembly would have finished deliberating on the matter.

Haha...
The aim is to fill the appointees' pockets, you know?
Didn't you ?
If anyone hasn't been rewarded for rigging the election to make Emilokan Nigeria's president, they'll just create a new position for them to enjoy too.
This isn't new, you know?

Exactly. Tinubu has the highest number of Ministers since 1999 okay a time when the government are complaining of lack of funds.
Charity they say must begin at home.
He should first start by pruning his cabinet to a reasonable size then he will have the moral justification to implement the Oronsaye report.

An irresponsible government that created more bogous ministries just to accommodate political cronies for compensation is not serious about reducing the cost of government

As simple as that. Tinubu has to cut cost in all ramifications. U can't be having lifeless ministries while telling ur useless ers to endure for u.

Charity is actually supposed to begin from home.

He needs to implement the Oronsaye report on the size of his cabinet.
nairalanda1(m): 2:09pm On Feb 27, 2024
I'm all for reduction of ministers and all that, but the problem is, the constitution says that all the states have to be represented on the ministerial cabinet.

Personally, I like the idea of having 13 ministries. But that means 13 out of 36 states benefit.
