The Bauchi State Police Command has declared controversial Islamic cleric, Dr Idris Abdul’azeez wanted for alleged ‘Contempt of Court.’

The Police in a Special Gazette Bulletin issued by the order of the Inspector-General of Police on Thursday, urged anyone with information about the whereabouts of the 63-year-old cleric to report to the State Police Command or any nearest Police station.

The Police described Abdul’azeez as being dark in complexion and of slim build, with a diamond-shaped face, brown eyes, and grey hair. They reported that he was last seen at Dutsen Tanshi in Bauchi State.

The notice added that a “handsome reward” awaits any person(s) with information leading to Dutsen Tanshi’s arrest.
Recall that the Upper Shari’a court in Bauchi had issued an arrest warrant for the Chief Imam following his refusal to appear before the court to continue his trial.

DAILY POST reports that Abdul’aziz is standing trial before the court on offences bordering on alleged incitement of public disturbance of peace and blasphemy.

The cleric was accused of uttering blasphemous comments against Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) and some notable Dariqa clerics in one of his Ramadan Tafsir sessions.

"It Is Unacceptable" – Shehu Sani on Islamic cleric’s comment about Tinubu’s wife

Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator, says the call by an Islamic cleric to kill the wife of President Bola Tinubu, Oluremi, is condemnable. Sani said Nigerians should criticize the government and its policies within the ambit of the law.

The Islamic cleric, whose identity could not be ascertained, had said Oluremi Tinubu should be killed for being a pastor. In a viral video, the cleric is heard saying the Muslim/Muslim ticket that brought President Bola Tinubu to power was a scam.

The cleric averred that Mrs Tinubu, “being an infidel should be put to death as provided for in the Quran,” he, however, did not provide any chapter or verse of the Quran to his claim.

“Now, Tinubu, his wife is an infidel. As an infidel, she is a leader among the infidels. God’s judgement says she must be killed. She’s a pastor, a leader of infidels (Christians); Allah says they must be killed,” he said.

Reacting, Sani posted on X: “Criticising the Government and its policies is within the ambit of democratic rights; but Calling for the killing of Senator Remi Tinubu by the religious cleric is unacceptable and utterly condemnable.” Mrs Tinubu is an assistant pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG.
