U summarise everything, thy don't read the article. Who will put is money where there is terrorism, no infrastructure, kidnapping?? The world can't resist us. If we put our houses in order.
Kukutenla:

Can you do us all a favour and shut up? How many trips did Mandela, Mbeki, Zuma or Ramaphosa embark on before those big international corporations decided to set up shop in SA. As a matter of fact, SA is becoming more anti-West lately with their for Palestine, hip of Brics and decision to stay neutral in the Russia-Ukraine war while tacitly ing Russia. Yet the West keeps romancing them.
Fix your home front and every other thing will fall in place. No business entity will see 200million people with purchasing power and good environment and wait a second. They'll come begging like they do with China

How can someone be literary educated yet so ignorant.
Restructuring of state my foot!
This editorial is all crap, devoid of the sound economic fundamental. Why? Because
1- The treasury is empty nothing can be done, even the lame example that yobe state govt convoy was attacked the other day he travelled is appalling. Will Tinubu man the state security? Where is the money for equipping security going to come from? How can he create job or even pay salary when the treasuryis empty?
Even as an individual, if you have ever been without money and have good intentions, you are handicapped.
Why is the foreign trip important
1- He get 1st hand information of investors fears. If they are bottle necks he tackles it
2- He market the nation in good light.
3- He strategically lure investors in key area that the nation need development.
Finally which is the most important, is that Nigerians are suffering big time, they have no patience for anything that will keep them there any longer.

Now, to the Punch
Share with us what he will be doing and how to achieve it by not going out to look for investment.

Once Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical roar to life , investors would come , provide he is listed on the Nigeria Exchange .... Governments job is to create enabling environment and avoid policy somersault as if they have selective amnesia... Fixing the Power sector is one way to go.

While this Punch Editorial is constructive, I do not concur!

President Tinubu's early global travels are a strategic imperative, enhancing Nigeria's standing and fostering international partnerships. Beyond symbolic gestures, these engagements showcase nuanced diplomacy, opening avenues for collaborative problem-solving. In this early stages of his presidency, Tinubu's proactive approach sets the tone for Nigeria's global presence, laying the groundwork for economic prosperity. Critics overlooking the interconnected nature of global challenges miss the necessity of Tinubu's calculated travels. In essence, these engagements aren't just diplomatic rituals; they're a visionary investment securing Nigeria's role on the world stage.

Of course these days some people have resolved that anything to drag Tinubu is bae…Yes the president is answerable to all, but kindly do not distract the President with this….

President to President, meeting investors, securing sign deals on spot are commendable as far as I am concerned

Let’s commend the president for this tireless effort needed at early stage, let’s allow collabotion at the CEO of a nation level…..let’s forget kidding out of unsound reasonings…

My name is Martins Omotoso, I am open to cerebral discussions devoid of dirty languages….. God bless Nigeria.

How do you tell a man that is desperate for attention and also hungry for power at the same time to reduce his frequent trips.... Voting that man into power will be one one of the greatest mistake Nigerians ever made... What am I even saying. Self... Was he even voted into power? We are in soup for real

Your house is on fire and u go out inviting people to come in and dine with u. Shouldn't u put your house in order first? Abacha did not travel anywhere yet the Nigerian economy was at its strongest during his regime.

You clearly know nothing about foreign investors. These people have analysts whose fulltime job is evaluating Nigeria. If the environment is right, investors will come. They don't need to hear from BAT or any politician. They have access to hard facts.
No credible foreign investor or tourist will go to where their governments have officially advised them against going, as they have done for most of Nigeria. Their insurance companies won't even cover such trips. Get the basics right and watch foreign investors flood in.

He needs to woo them. They won’t come if they are not wooed. Some corporations have fallowing money looking for where to invest it. Seein him will send a signal that the country senior man means business. It’s a business deal and not tha we want to do them any favor to warrant them to come and beg us.

I used to think this until I went to South Africa once.

All the big international corporations in IT and other "modern type" sectors have big buildings over there injecting some serious money into their economy.

Zoom meetings and emails can't cut it to get those businesses over here investing, President Tinubu needs to be physically standing in front of these investors in order to get anything.

All the hard work his lazy predecessors didn't do, he now has to. I feel for the man and believe he'll pull it off.

Punch article is correct. No one is going to invest in an unsafe environment. Build enough security capacity at home first, which will allow you crush insecurity, go after the sponsors and cut the western for the insecurity (lets not deceive ourselves, a greater part of the insecurity in Nigeria is sponsored by the west).

I should add this... lets not again deceive ourselves.
considering our vast natural resources, our huge population and our innovative, survivable, smart and intelligent youthful population, It is not in the interest of the western country for Nigeria to develop, expand and industrialize. If we grow, we will become another china they will have to content with. So, we are not going to see any serious FDI from the western country. The best they can do is sign MOUs and then, they will ignore it. President Tinubu should understand this. There is no magic wang he can use. Those people look into the things I enumerated and decide, they will continue to feed us peanuts. That is it. President Tinubu should align more with BRICS+, somethings he seems to ignore, probably despise.

You don't beg or start running after investors to invest in your country. Investors invest where they see potentials.
If Nigeria has an enabling environment today, investors will flood this country.
What was the infrastructure of South Africa like before these multinational corporations went there to invest?

Point blank! Saying it as it is! Punch Editorial have nailed it. I thought he should first of all put things in it's proper perspectives eg, Insecurities, power, roads, rail, etc. Once these things are achieved, FDI will start coming by itself. While he is junketing around the globe, few remaining companies in Nigeria are folding and leaving the country.
