Nigerian leaders responsible for students’ mass failure - Patience Jonathan Wife of President Goodluck Jonahan, Dame Patience Jonathan, has said that the inability of the nation’s leaders to channel resources towards helping the less privileged get quality education is responsible for students’ mass failure in examinations. The first lady said this in Port Harcourt yesterday at the second national conference on kindergarten education organized by a non-governmental organization, Empowerment Initiative (ESI), founded by wife of the Rivers State Governor, Mrs Judith Amaechi. Represented by wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Amina Mohammed Sambo, the first lady urged leaders in the country to invest more resources in education to help the less privileged children have access to quality education. “I am optimistic that if our leaders channel their resources towards improving education, the problem of mass failure in the West African examinations (WAEC) and others would be tackled”, she said. Lets get objective for once ignoring the flaws in her statement("their resources"  as all these bashings will take us no where. Yes our leaders(especially our past leaders) are responsible for the mass failure of students in WAEC examinations. They failed to invest genuinely in they education sector(forget all those noise about free education as the quality of education on offer was shit and is still shit). The students failed because most of them have poor education backgrounds from the primary sch level. Once the background is poor it takes a lot of determination and hardwork to overcome the deficit. That said, I hope her statement was made with the intention of avoiding the mistake of leaders and investing in qualitative education from the roots (kindergarten/primary level) up to the top. This way, our student can have sound foundations so as to perform better in future examination. Therefore, let us wait and see if she/Jonathan will back up her words with action before jumping on her back. NOTE: She is a product of the system as her BAD spoken English speaks for itself and it is her responsibility to correct the wrong so that her extended family won't toe her line.
