Niger governor demands 13% derivation from oil revenue; threatens to shut down Kainji Dam, other national power infrastructure “We demand compensation for our people. Everything, every resource that comes from Niger state, must be compensated." Governor Umaru Bago has threatened to shut down the Kainji Dam and other power infrastructure supplied to the Delta region if the federal government does not extend the payment of 13% per cent derivation fund enjoyed by oil-producing states to Niger. Niger State is more than Netherlands and Belgium combined in land size but cannot feed itself, (this is for those who always say that South East has a small landmass,) most of the milk used by Mai Shayi to make tea in Nigeria comes from cows in small Netherlands while Fulani herdsmen slaughters the population to use their farm crops to feed their Kwashiokod cows. I expected the hardworking Governor of Niger State to ask Peter Obi how he planned to transform the state into a productive state during the campaigns with all those huge expanse of fertile lands wasting away but instead he is looking at more money from Niger Delta oil which NNPCL is already telling us is not available for Dangote refinery. Meanwhile 70% of Nigeria power generation comes from Niger Delta gas while 27% is from hydro, so if he shuts down the dams the country won't be in total darkness and he lacks the capacity to do it because it will cause massive flooding if you don't release the water 320 Likes 33 Shares |

I have said it several times. Implement true federalism. Unbundle the national grid nonsense. Every state should look for means to generate power or buy from a neighbouring state. How can states in faraway North be supplying power to the south when the south has gas in abundance? 329 Likes 27 Shares |

For Nigeria to practise true federalism, a lot of states will have to be merged. Though the Niger state governor is being disingenuous in this case because it is common knowledge that Niger state is part of a special federal government development agency created to develop hydropower producing areas known as HYPADEC. Also it seems that the past and present Niger state governors are lazy waiting for free oil money when it has large areas of fertile agricultural lands waiting to be harnessed for commercial farming. 64 Likes 10 Shares |

This is a clear sign that Nigeria needs to divide. Kanji Dam is part of Gencos. If the governor needs money, he should get a percentage of what Kanji Dam makes as a Genco. Asking for Oil revenue from far away Niger-Delta shows how wicked these people are. Unbelievable 150 Likes 12 Shares |

Mali, Niger, Benin and Chad that the river flows through before it gets to your cocroach state should also sue you. Stupid mentally retarded people who were born to suffer. Delta State is a coastal state which experiences a high volume of rainfall every year with abundant inland water resources and high underwater table. Delta has never used your Niger and doesn't need it. 75 Likes 4 Shares |

Nobody wants to transform anywhere. They just bring up road construction and steal massively. Imagine someone built Airport that is irrelevant to the people.
