This is fonio.

A very nutritious tiny grain that is quite common, especially in the northern part of Nigeria.
(I wonder why it is not yet common in the southern part of Nigeria.)
It is also popular in some African countries like Senegal, Burkina Faso, Mali, Togo, etc.

As a staple food, fonio can play a vital role in ensuring food security, especially during the post-harvest period when food is scarce.
It can be harvested within 6–8 weeks (I know, right? 😳), and stores well without the risk of pest infestation.

Fonio contains numerous B vitamins (which are necessary for the growth, development, and function of cells and energy production), as well as minerals like calcium, iron, copper, zinc, and magnesium.
It also offers moderate amounts of protein and fiber.
It is gluten free, with a low glycemic index.

Fonio grows well in drought conditions and poor soils without the need for fertilizers or other implements.

I still don't understand why rice will keep getting more expensive.
That's how beans was more expensive than rice in 2021.

I think some tribes call it acha (correct me if I'm wrong). Unfortunately, the taste can never compare to rice. If it isn't rice, then forget it.
