Today, I had the opportunity to be in Lado village, Udede Development Area, Nasarawa local government, Nasarawa State for the foundation stone laying ceremony for the factory that will process Lithium batteries, established by the Ganfeng Lithium Industry Limited.

I acknowledge the significance of this foundation stone laying ceremony for the 16,000 ton lithium battery processing facility because it aligns with the cardinal policy of the istration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to create wealth and employment opportunities for our young population through value addition in our extractive industry.

Under my supervision, I will prioritize value addition as a government policy for the mining sector.

I urge all stakeholders and potential investors to embrace this approach, as it will boost the economy and generate foreign exchange.

Rest assured, this istration will provide all the necessary to make this factory a reality. It is without a doubt, a marketable and profitable venture.

Furthermore, I emphatically urge the community to foster a harmonious relationship with the company. This will result in mutual benefits for the community, the state, and the entire country. Constructive industrial development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace.

Once the company is fully operational, it will provide employment for 2,500 locals and offer opportunities for capacity building.

I also commend the courage and enterprise of the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, for the actualization of this groundbreaking ceremony.

And if we keep importing, we would keep on sending our forex out of the country.

It's time we attracted forex into the country, and created employment into the bargain. We can't keep on selling raw materials to others who would use them to make products that earn them far more than the raw materials we sell.

Rich countries are exporters of manufactured goods and services.

Yes, batteries may be expensive as a result, but then again, workers have to be paid well. Better it is Nigerian workers being paid well regardless of tribe.

I welcome this development, which would invariably raise our contribution and revenue within the supply chain. But I do not believe what Nigeria is going to get is an actual Lithium Battery Factory.

The Ganfeng Lithium Group has a pretty large footprint around the world, however like all other Chinese entities involved in Lithium Battery production, it has confined its manufacturing bases to China ONLY.

The devil is always in the detail, so I do not accept Dele Alake's view here.

My guess is that Nigeria will get some kind of precursor processing plant, where the lithium being shipped out to China gets refined to some degree from its extracted form. A lithium battery factory is no small undertaking, and the Chinese are not in the business of sharing their technology just yet

Very good move. I must congratulate the FG. You can't talk about electric vehicle without lithium. While the American clown called Elon Musk (Tesla) wanted licence to mine...FG rejected his request.

Just like the French government who were mining uranium in Niger Republic... the US came through Tesla to mine our lithium. When i tell people that the West don't want Africa to develop, not ready to lift us out of poverty, will never transfer important technology to us but will go ahead to establish over 1000 military base in African territory. Probably where they train & supply terrorist with advanced weaponry to destablize Africa.

The foreigners will be surprised that each time they want to do an investment in Africa (particularly Nigeria), they will first of all organize a ceremony ...I wike of rivers state, any day he paid people to sweep a market, he will televised it using heavy budget, he will also sing to entertain those in attendance and insult his political enemies...at the end, to total expenses for that ceremony may be equal, if not more than the cost of the project... At 2023, do we need to organize a ceremony because one Chinese company is coming to reap us of our lithium?
