The Ukrainian counteroffensive has begun, kicking off a particularly dangerous time for Ukraine's armed forces, even with its newly acquired arsenal of Western-made tanks, armored vehicles, and other weaponry that has been pouring in over months.

Ukrainian forces, including combat units trained in Western tactics and armed with Western weaponry, are pushing against various parts of the front line, The Washington Post reported.

Ukraine sent Western tanks into battle for the first time in a major offensive on the southern front that marked the launch of its long-awaited counter-offensive. Leopard II main battle tanks were seen in the Zaporizhzhia region, where a sudden surge in fighting appeared to mark the start of the assault. Ukrainian officials speaking on condition of anonymity said an active phase of the counter-offensive was under way, US media reported.

US officials said that the latest assault appeared to be the main thrust of the counter-offensive. However, officials cautioned that the Russians had put up “stiff resistance” and that the Ukrainians had suffered losses.

The Ukrainian offensive appeared to be focussed around the Ukrainian-held front-line town of Orikhiv, with analysts suggesting Kyiv was intending to push down towards the coast and cut off Russia’s access to Crimea.

But Russia claimed to have largely repelled the attack. Ukrainian and Western officials have long warned that the counter-offensive would be difficult, even with fresh supplies of modern Nato-standard equipment like main battle tanks.

Ukrainian forces suffer ‘stiff resistance’ and losses in assault on Russian lines

Ukrainian forces have suffered losses in heavy equipment and soldiers as they met greater than expected resistance from Russian forces in their first attempt to breach Russian lines in the east of the country in recent days, two senior US officials tell CNN.

One US official described the losses – which include US supplied MRAP armored personnel vehicles as “significant.”

Ukrainian forces managed to overrun some Russian forces in the east around Bakhmut. However, Russian forces, armed with anti-tank missiles, grenades and mortars, have put up “stiff resistance,” with their forces dug into defensive lines that are several layers deep in some areas and marked by minefields that have taken a heavy toll on Ukrainian armored vehicles.

In the military perspective, a counteroffensive can only be successful when it falls into one of these categories:
1. When the counteroffensive comes as an element of surprise.
2. When the enemy have no capacity (i.e armaments and manpower) to halt or destroy the offensive.

Without surprise, Russia do not fall under the listed categories.
Time is not on the side of the Ukrainians, infact time is working against them, because while zelensky was rallying around for weapons for this offensive, the Russians were building up defensive positions.

If we were to play along the western narratives, one would've thought that this counteroffensive will be a walk in the park for the Ukrainians but NO, it is a walk into the trap for them.

I saw a video of Ukrainian APCs and tanks rolling down to the Frontline without air cover, is that not a suicide mission?
