I'm not suprised at all some teachers don't even attend classes for one month or more why blame the student but to solve this menace is very simple:
1.The minimum wages should be implemented.
2.Teachers should be paid on time.
3.In my former school a catholic owned school there was a method used there called "NO CLASS NO SALARY" class prefects hold class once a teacher miss a class or 5 minutes late without a good reason your salary will be deducted by end of the month.
So if this methods is applied i'm sure things will definitely improve.

Am not surprise at such becos hardly before you see student of today reading their books, in those days reading is a must, because your parents will not let you alone, reading of novels was common etc,  today its facebook, pinging, twitter, Ps2, music etc so here come the results and its killing us more and more, Parents are busy running up and down making money, they never bother if their children are really performing well in their academic pursit, ask some student to tell you what is photosynthesis, you will discover that they dont know it but ask them who sang Oleku they will tell you the date the album was release, when the singer was born, where the video was produced etc, Parents its up to us make sure our effort is not wasted, truly we are meant to huzzle at the same time create time to check these children at school and how they are performing, God bless Nigeria.

Good man,you.
Just tell it as it is.
They spend more time on facebook than on thier studies.
For those solely taking the blame to the government,I beg to disagree.Yes, the system needs an overhaul, but the kids must play a critical part in the process.

Isn't it hilarious when someone tries to come off as intellectual and better-off and they only succeed in displaying their incompetence? It's quite obvious you are not so different from the "student of today" that you tried so hard to castigate. Going by your verbose, "paragraph-less" and ineffectual response to the topic, I would advise you plead with the to remove your post so you may redact and re-post it. Damn!

Correct, you are perfect in your assertions.

Very Pathetic. The blame is two fold, the students and the system. Not every one can afford to take their children to private schools and govt. schools are getting bad. I also blame the students. Many of them don't read.

Can you imagine that some students in SS3 dont know what a line of latitude or line of longitude is? They dont understand what a North pole or south pole is. I suffered when i was trying to explain the concept to the students,
