Before the discovery of oil, Saudi Arabia was not a wealthy nation. In fact, it had a fewer population and a modest annual budget. Saudis were mostly working on family-run date farms, trade in coastal towns and handicrafts. People lived in mud houses with their extended families. However, when oil was discovered in 1938, Saudi Arabia saw a drastic increase in wealth and living standards. Saudi Arabia is now ranked the 21st happiest nation in the world and is a member of the G20 countries, the group of the 20 strongest economies in the world. Side note: oil alone cannot make a country rich. Major oil-exporting countries have become either failed states or with struggling economies such as Iraq, Iran, and Venezuela. Oil needs excellent governance, excellent education and social unity, all of which Saudi Arabia has successfully managed to achieve. 8 Likes 1 Share |

Naija I hail thee. In fact, Nigeria is not ripe for democracy or should I say "independence".

Very few powerful empires are brought down by invasions from the outside. Usually, they are brought down from the inside out; by the foolishness of their own citizens and leaders. |

Oil wasn't as much a curse to them as it is to us.

I'm very interested in how they think as a people. How they were able to game their psyche and move from sustenance to opulence without losing themselves might be the key to our long-sought economic liberation. |

Is Saudi Arabia a Western Democracy? The King of Saudi Arabia, officially the King of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Arabic: ملك المملكة العربية السعودية), is the monarchial head of state and ruler of Saudi Arabia who holds absolute power. Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud (Arabic: محمد بن سلمان آل سعود, romanized: Muḥammad bin Salmān Āl Su‘ūd; born 31 August 1985), colloquially known by his initials MBS or MbS, is Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia. The prime minister of Saudi Arabia is the chair of the Council of Ministers and head of government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Mohammed bin Salman has been Prime Minister since 27 September 2022. The post has always been held by either the King or the Crown Prince. 1 Like |

It will be very difficult for any country that has a large number of urchins to develop properly. Over here a lot of people are just unnecessarily wicked. They rejoice when they oppress others. That's why in our higher institutions we have psychopaths who claim to be hardmen causing havoc. Those set of psychopaths will then eventually take leadership positions and their children will never see nothing wrong in rigging, ritualistic acts and looting.

Anyone pinning Nigeria's predicament on Tinubu's victory at the polls over PO/ATIKU is just an ordinary pained sore loser who has failed to come to with reality. Urchin is a colloquial term used to describe Tinubu's ers and the above post is suggestive. But lemme fix it ![]() It will be very difficult for any country that has a large number of Zombidients to develop properly. Over here a lot of Zombidients are just unnecessarily wicked. They rejoice when they bully/oppress others thinking it'll win thier messiah an election. That's why in our higher institutions we have Zombidients who beleive they live in a Zoo identifying as wild animals and wreaking havoc. Those set of Zombidients aspire to eventually take leadership positions and when they don't, their children will cry rigging, foul, ritualistic acts and looting. PS: No state in SW Nigeria is a Zoo. 1 Like |

CodeTemplar:Lol, Saudi population is 1/6 of the Nigerian population with oil reserves more than 7X that of Nigeria and they also made a lot of investment in the oil industry that allows them to pump 10 Million barrel a day, c'mon this folks are swing producer. I'm not making a case for Nigeria but their is no basis for comparison. 2 Likes |

shegzhkn: ARE YOU MINDING THESE ILLITERATE, IGNORANT NIGERIANS? THEY CANNOT REASON LIKE INTELLIGENT BEINGS. NIGERIA PRODUCES OIL. SAUDI ARABIA PRODUCES OIL. FINISH. THEIR BRAINS CANNOT GO BEYOND THAT. DON'T BOTHER. SAUDI ARABIA HAS 4 TIMES NIGERIA'S OIL RESERVES AND DAILY OUTPUT. AND HAS A POPULATION OF 35 MILLION PEOPLE. IT'S LIKE GIVING ONE SINGLE STATE IN NIGERIA THE ENTIRE NIGERIAN OIL INCOME PER ANNUM, TIMES 4. HOW WILL THEY NOT LOOK LIKE HEAVEN ON EARTH? NIGERIA HAS ONE QUARTER OF SAUDI OIL RESERVES AND DAILY OUTPUT. AND HAS 220 MILLION PEOPLE. YET WE HAVE NIGERIANS - SUPPOSEDLY EDUCATED DUNCES - COMPARING NIGERIA TO SAUDI ARABIA. IMPLYING WE SHOULD 'BE LIKE THEM'. THEIR PROBLEM IS THOUGHTLESNESS. IGNORE THEM. |

Napata77: When you write, I just feel pity sincerely. Nigeria has one of the largest gas reserves in the world. Using population as your focal point of comparison is lame rather you should use effective leadership, production, efficiency and corruption. A lot of oil and gas exploration hasn't carried out in some areas in Nigeria. Corruption, unfavorable environment for investment, lack of quality leadership, lack of efficiency and low investment in the oil and gas in Nigeria is affecting us not population. My friend is a Scientist at Saudi Aramco. Say what you know pls. |
EdoBoy90(m): 12:24pm On Mar 27, 2023 |
Even in OPEC, Nigeria is not meeting up with production quota. Stop the population comparison and focus on key issues. |
shegzhkn: 1:58pm On Mar 27, 2023 |
EdoBoy90:What is the quota given to them?? |
