That was my approach and I have been happily married for 20 years now. The lie of getting to know one another is what it is - a lie. People change based on life events not duration of courtship and most of those life events occur inside marriage. To say you want to know someone well outside of marriage is a common mistake. It simply leads to knowing their faults better, not in understanding your role in developing each other. She will make mistakes as you will but marriage is not about being faultless.
