Minister of Petroleum Resources Mrs Diezani Allison-Madueke stated further that with a 24-month mandate to fix the old refineries, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has already embarked on consultation to ensure that the TAM takes off next year, which is expected to take off with Port Harcourt refinery.

“The nation’s refining capacity would receive significant boost in the next three years, with the coming up three new refineries and the TAM of the traditional refineries, which is now being handled by the companies that first built them to ensure that this time the facilities will actually give us the result that we desire in this country and take us to 95 per cent capacity utilization in all our traditional refineries.”

The Group Managing Director of NNPC, Austen Oniwon said: “We have given ourselves 24 months to raise the three refineries, we are starting with Port Harcourt refinery, and we have engaged JDP of Japan, which is partnering with Tecnimont of Italy and they are presently in talks, with the hope that by the third quarter of next year they will move into Port Harcourt refinery and commence rehabilitation. It is not just the Turn Around Maintenance; it is the full rehabilitation of the refineries.

Yeah, skimming through the article, looks like the same Greenfield refineries being done with the Chinese. So nothing actually new.

All those that have conspired to cheat the SEners.
When THEY were siting every important infrastructure in Lagos, their native doctors didn't tell them that one day an Igbo that moved to Lagos because of economic neglect to his region would want to become Lagos governor? Now they are all crying like babies vomiting rubbish that could shock Hitler. Na thunder go fire all una. It must come to and nothing go happen. For this country, nobody be mugu again. Any level dey want take am to, no shaking, we dey wait.

Look at Abuja too.

If THEY no give us, we go find am wherever it hides but they shouldn't complain tomorrow.

I think the post is a little misleading, carrying out turn-around maintenance on The Three Existing Refineries is different from building a 3 Brand new refineries, Believe me it is not possible to build 3 refineries in 24 months unless it is the usual Government Gibberish.

the problem is the structure of the industry, the pricing structure is rubbish, until we address the issue of subsidy only the govt can afford (?) to build refineries and we all know how they will end up.

This is just a usual story what happen to those licences given to 18 companies for private refinarries during president Olusegun Obasanjo government in 2006 and sometimes last 2 year I read it on one of the national dailys that a new licence was given to another company
GASOLINE NIG LTD,No one was successful and the basic excuse given was deregulation which i think government need to work earnestly on.
BigMeat2: 4:07pm On Aug 11, 2011
Recycling the same stories to make the population happy, 24 months from now another information about why they can't complete the project.

Let them just get on doing the job instead of making useless annoucement.

Kobojunkie: 7:18pm On Aug 11, 2011

Is it me or Nigerian politicians have been chatting shite since 1999

All talk and no tros.

How do you build refineries in 2 years  undecided
Reference(m): 12:16am On Aug 12, 2011
Endless repairs, endless fixing. If those things are comatose, just kill them, blow them up for goodness sake. Thirty years after they were built we still cannot keep them going for twelve calendar months. Is it a curse or something. What a mess. Is it that we are doomed to imports.
Ibime(m): 1:32am On Aug 12, 2011
Thank God. No more petrol tankers parking on the roadside from Okrika to Eleme for days on end whilst waiting for PH refinery to deliver, polluting the environment and causing traffic and mayhem. Okrika mama puts and prostitutes market go spoil sha.
isleman(m): 9:00am On Aug 12, 2011
We know the trick, when you hear such, it means more money would be looted in 24 months. let them do the roads that we can clearly see them do.
