When Ibom Air launched in 2019, you could by a Business Class ticket for #42,000. Economy was #31,000. Cheap. Now? In 2019, you could fill a tank with less than #10,000 at #185 per litre. How many people are complaining about filling tanks today? How many can put up #15 million without feeling it today? See, I can easily posture or go with the flow like everyone else, acting like money means little. A few pictures here and there, but to what end? Five or ten pages from now, we'd move on from the random bantering but this is a reoccurring issue. How many of you resident in Nigeria ively edging him on can afford that #15 million in cash without feeling it? No? Men should be able to tell themselves truths. But, no, you are swimming in money. 5 Likes 1 Share |

DissTroy: If by CMD , u mean a person who runs a makshift dispensary/local clinic inside one rural area in the outskirts of Lagos, u may be right. However, if u are saying a Chief Medical Director of a private hospital that has doctors, nurses, cleaners, sonographers, Lab Technologist, etc under his payroll does not earn N10m annually, I'm afraid you don't know what you are talking about. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

DissTroy: We have practising doctors in here. I'm sure when they come online the can either confirm your claim or refute it. But from the standard of living, I've seen being enjoyed by the few CMD's I've come across, they certainly don't look like people who have a salary ceiling of N10m per annum. |

I hope the bot doesn't hide this. Public service salary structure in Nigeria, 2025: https://geniusbrain.ng/post/federal-government-salary-scale-monthly-net-salaries-of-ministries-departments-agencies-in-nigeria/ . This is public. Now imagine CMDs for private hospitals. Are these people not high up the societal ladder? Yet #15 million is not something they would cough up easily. You can keep pretending to be Nairaland Dangotes. 3 Likes |

DissTroy: We have a family friend who is a CMD of his own hospital which he built from scratch. As at 2006 he sent his first child abroad to study medicine. His second born attended Ajayi Crowther university while his third child graduated from Babcock university. I don't how much he makes annually but it is evident he definitely didn't finance his family lifestyle and children's education with an income ceiling of N10m. This I am very sure of. I don't even think those practicing in government hospitals earn as much as those in private practice. At least I know someone who told me sometimes in 2021 that he had to take a pay cut from the salary he earns as a doctor in private practice to ing Lagos state ministry of health. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

BlueRayDick: What are we arguing about? The salary structure I posted is for today. The supposed luxuriousness of #15 million is for today in 2025. How does the comparison to 19 years ago in 2006 relate to today? Please stay focused. Arguments are contextual. 5 Likes |

DissTroy So, just to chip in my thoughts on this I think there's a difference between EXPENSIVE AND LUXURY. What determines Luxury, is the qualities and the attributes of what the item posseses, and not the price. Things have gotten expensive over time, and yes, nobody can easily spend that, but that doesn't mean a Camry 013, is luxurious. It can never be even if it costs 1 billion naira. It only got EXPENSIVE. This is the price of a 1980 something Nigerian Used Mack Truck. 22 million naira. We cannot say this is luxurious in any way. That's my own opinion on this matter. 18 Likes 6 Shares |

DissTroy: You’ve never exactly been the brightest bulb in the room — which probably explains why you didn’t land that oil job in the first place. And now look at you, having a full-blown meltdown just because we asked you to name the brand of this so-called N15 million “luxury” car your benefactor allegedly gifted you. The fact that you still can’t see how ridiculous your own post sounds just proves the point — yet another reason your so-called tech career never even got off the ground. May God deliver you from poverty — both of the pocket and the mind. It’s actually wild how you’re now trying to play the victim, when the quote I referenced — your own words, by the way — was just you doing your usual embellishment routine, trying to look more important than you actually are. Let’s be real — no one here has been bragging but you. You’re the only one constantly banging on about your social-economic-political class, your music taste, your women, your fine face, your “elite” connections, and all the so-called classy places you’ve been to. You’ve placed yourself above everyone here without having a clue who you’re even talking to — and now you want to cry foul just because someone finally questioned your standard of living? Come off it. You can’t be both the villain and the victim, the rich and the poor, living in luxury and struggling with poverty. Pick a side, Ekaette. The cheek of you, acting like a N15 million car is some rare feat — when in reality, those are the same cars most adult men with half-decent jobs, who’ve worked, earned, and paid their taxes for years, have been driving without needing a trumpet. But in your world, they must suddenly disappear in 2025 just to prop up your weak narrative? Just because you shout the loudest in here doesn’t mean you’d stand a chance in the real world. And let’s not forget your strange habit of blurring the line between what’s yours and what belongs to the state — like public resources are part of your personal CV. And like I said before — I’m not getting into a gbola-measuring contest with you, because mine’s already certified OG. I’ve told you time and again, there’s absolutely nothing new or groundbreaking about anything you’ve ever “championed” on here. For the record, here are my posts clearly addressing both the current earning power of people today and the types of cars that can realistically be considered luxury in today’s market. So let’s not pretend you’re dropping anything revolutionary. diggz: diggz: Lastly, you really need to take Nihilist’s advice and upgrade those quack Wikipedia/IT skills you’ve been using to impress your village people. If you actually had any real knowledge — and your earning power was solid enough to pay your fair share of tax like every other grown man — the mention of a N15 million car not being considered luxury in 2025 wouldn’t be sending you into a public meltdown on a forum like this. A CMD of one of the teaching hospitals in the cities I like to mention earned not so much. He augmented with consultancy and specialized services,; he was well in demand. But his salary today in that position would make #15 million a luxury. You said I was wrong. I posted an official public service salary structure. Next you went on with whataboutism from 19 years ago. Prove how CMDs earn enough to afford it or up to #10 million. Let's even forget about the other people. You are still avoiding the question: since you are edging the other guy on, how many of you here resident in Nigeria can cough up #15 million for a car. No "Someone I know" or "One of my guys"; you! You were the ones edging him on since last night. Can you cough it up since it's not a luxury? 2 Likes |

DissTroy: I am telling u those salary structure do not reflect the current economic reality of today . You claim a Chief medical director of a private clinic doesn’t earn above the average of N10m and I’m telling u they do even before now . Do u think someone who earns below N10m today would’ve been able to sponsor his child to study medicine abroad 19 years ago ? Do u even know what u are saying when u say a CMD doesn’t earn more than N10m annually ? You are saying a CMD who heads hospital where they charge above N500k for surgical operations like Caesarean section will struggle to take home N10m per annum ? What u are doing drawing inference with that public sector pay structure is like saying all entry level employees in the private sector earn below N150k because level 8 civil servants earn below N150k 5 Likes 1 Share |

No semantics. Can you afford the #15 million car without taking a hit in your purse? Whatever you can't afford twice is a luxury. How much did the taped banana art sell again? It's inflated in price and all of us here can't afford it so it's a super luxury. Can you afford that #22 million truck you posted? No? It's a luxury. Luxury is a synonym of expensive but do a merry-go-round to avoid the point. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Blueraydick, I posted a salary structure with a link anyone can view to confirm CMDs earn within that range and you are still arguing? You are debating what the FG pays them which you can in a few minutes? Show proof of what CMDs in the private sector earn. Well, maybe you just want to argue. Show me hard evidence CMDs earn way more than the range I posted in the link. Just one. Back it up with evidence. 2 Likes |

DissTroy: 1. The pay structure u posted is excluding allowances . This means the actual salary exceeds what was posted in the link . 2. The highest cadre of salary shown in ur list for the health workers which doctors fall under is level 13. We all know whoever will be a CMD will be well above that grade . The data for CMD grade (which will most likely be between level 15 to 17 ) is missing in the data you shared . 3. The data you shared applies to those in the public sector and not private practice who on an average earn more than their private sector counterparts . So u see , the data u shared doesn’t actually do justice to ur argument . We all know u won’t find the salary of CMDs in the private sector online . I am not a doctor and cannot claim to know how much they earn , but I will also not agree with incorrect inference u are drawing erroneously from the incomplete data u shared . That’s where I stand . That is why I said doctors in the house will be in the best position to give us a figure that is closer to reality 6 Likes 2 Shares |

Two weeks ago on this same thread, when Nihilist mentioned only poorly skilled devs would take up a #250K to #350K job, I disputed. I won't blame him - he's been out of the system for long. He doesn't understand the reality. Immediately I exemplified with certain areas and places people could , everyone began to realize the truth. I asked doctors here (KingTom particularly) to counter my claim. What happened next is an answer in itself. These folks are not expatriates. They are your comrades. Tell them the truth of what's back home. They are programmed to see everything from exchange rate conversions - you live the everyday reality. Still not one person resident in Nigeria here who can cough up the said #15 million for a car? Not one? Well then. On to the next argument or topical issue then, my Dangotes. ![]() 4 Likes 1 Share |

Me: CMDs earn less than #10 million. You: You don't know what you are saying; you are wrong. Me: Here's evidence to back up my claim - the public service salary structure. Provide your evidence. You: I don't have proof but I know that it cannot be. But, but, but...Private practice. Me: Okay. Provide evidence like I did. You: I don't have evidence but you are wrong. Welcome to Nairaland, gentlemen, where an agenda must go on, the contradictory or negating evidence regardless. 6 Likes 1 Share |

I believe specifying will further end the confusion... Luxury is subjective in the automotive world, but I would categorize it as follows- LUXURY- Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, Range Rover, Aston Martin, Porsche, Maybach... - Lexus, Infiniti,Acura,BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz,Volvo... MAINSTREAM-Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, Volkswagen,Kia.... In all said, some brands like Mercedes-Benz can blur the lines, and even mainstream brands like Toyota offer luxury editions(reason i said luxury is subjective). So Even a 2010 Benz S-class can be more than a 2025 Avalon and vice versa.😎 1 Like |

Omo — maybe in some alternate universe, a Peugeot 504, 505, regular old Benz, Concord, padded 360, 180, a 1998 Toyota Highlander, Beetle, ancient Hummer SUV, 1985 Mazda, or even a Danfo would all count as “luxury.” Because clearly, if 50% of the population can’t afford it, then it must be top-tier luxury vehicle, right? Just say you were born, bred, and still proudly living in poverty as a fully grown adult — no need to spell it out.
