Are you people aware that as recently as 300 years ago, we had black African monarchs in Europe? Some were possibly of Nigerian origin. They were West Africans, and were the famous Moors of history. ''History confirms that the Moors ruled in Europe -- primarily Spain and Portugal -- for almost 700 years. They were known for their influence in European culture, but not many people know that the Moors were actually Europeans of African descent. Moors were usually depicted as being "mostly black or very swarthy, and hence the word is often used for negro," according to the Oxford English Dictionary. ![]() Several written works at the time also confirm that. The 16th century English playwrights William Shakespeare used the word Moor as a synonym for African and Christopher Marlowe used Moor and African interchangeably. Author and historian Chancellor Williams said "the original Moors, like the original Egyptians, were black Africans." An Arab chronicler also described Moorish Emperor Yusuf ben-Tachfin as "a brown man with wooly hair." In European Art, Moors are also often shown with African features: pitch black, frizzled hair, flat and wide face, flat-nosed, and thick lips. The Drake Jewel, a rare documented piece of jewel from the 16th century, seemed to show a profile of a Black king dominating the profile of a white woman. Moreover, Moors were known to have contributed in areas of mathematics, astronomy, art, cuisine, medicine, and agriculture that helped develop Europe and bring them from the Dark Ages into the Renaissance. Generations of Spanish rulers have allegedly tried to abolish this era from the historical record. But recent archaeology determined that Moors indeed ruled in Al-Andalus for more than 700 years -- from 711 A.D. to 1492.'' - https://www.blackhistory.com/2019/08/moors-black-kings-queens-ruled-europe-almost-700-years.html#:~:text=African%20Americans...-,Black%20Kings%20(and%20Queens)%20Ruled%20Parts%20of%20Europe%20For%20Almost,actually%20Europeans%20of%20African%20descent 2 Likes |

NwaNimo1: It was the Moors that rescued them from their 'Dark Ages', which was characterised by mass poverty and illiteracy in Europe. It was the Moorish influence in istration, education, art, architecture, and science, that led to the European Renaissance, which was the springboard for the Industrial Revolution. Funnily enough, we have no idea that WE contributed heavily to the Industrial Revolution. 3 Likes |

Maybe there are no black or white after all, we may all have gotten colour from our environment which is mostly affected by climate in that region

godofuck231: When Europeans arrived Benin City in the 15th century, they described it as one of the most beautiful cities on Earth. According to the UK Guardian Newspaper, ''Benin City’s planning and design was done according to careful rules of symmetry, proportionality and repetition now known as fractal design. The mathematician Ron Eglash, author of African Fractals – which examines the patterns underpinning architecture, art and design in many parts of Africa – notes that the city and its surrounding villages were purposely laid out to form perfect fractals, with similar shapes repeated in the rooms of each house, and the house itself, and the clusters of houses in the village in mathematically predictable patterns. As he puts it: “When Europeans first came to Africa, they considered the architecture very disorganised and thus primitive. It never occurred to them that the Africans might have been using a form of mathematics that they hadn’t even discovered yet.” https://www.theguardian.com/cities/2016/mar/18/story-of-cities-5-benin-city-edo-nigeria-mighty-medieval-capital-lost-without-trace 2 Likes |

godofuck231: Some great points. But it was fundamentally the European adoption of 'gunpowder' - a native Chinese mixture traditionally used in festivals for fireworks, which the Europeans then used to build firearms, which led to their military conquest of the whole world, not just Africa. 1 Like |

In underground European history circles, there are allegations that the Moors were oppressive to the European populations they dominated. A famous allegation is that the Moors killed some of their white captives and subjects, and used their skin for leather sandals and bags. Supposedly, there was an actual industry based on this activity. Another allegation is that they built many 'harems' - huge villas in which they screwed hundreds of white women at will. Modern white racism they contend, is karmic payback for what the Moors did to them. Because Moorish presence in Europe was for 700 years (between the 1100s and 1700s), it is not inconceivable that some atrocities were committed by the African elite there at one point or the other. That is the nature of man's inhumanity to man, in situations of dominance. |

Lots of ignorance on this thread. Did Africans (Moors) rule Europe? YES. Were these Moors Nigerians? Capital NO. Moors were Arabs/Berbers from Northern Africa (Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya etc). Their name "Moors" is derived from Morocco, their main origin. The Moors southernmost extension at their peak was Mali/Niger. There was no Islam in Nigeria in the 1100s and we all know Islam was introduced to Nigeria around 1500s by Dan Fodio, so how were Moors Nigerians?? ![]() ................................................................................................ Mr. Reflect07 OP, can you please quote ONE respectable source that cited Moors as having Nigerian descent? Please no insults or epistles. Just quote the source... Thanks. |
