It’s interesting that some people think software developers getting jobs abroad is bad for Nigerian tech. @nke_ise & @OoTheNigerian , two true ecosystem builders broke this down for me years ago.https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1442622900792664068.html Mr. Opeyemi Awoyemi is a Co-Founder of TalentQL. He is a Co-Founder of Moneymie. He serves as a Board Member at Ongair. He served as Advisor at CrowdForce. He is a Co-Founder of Jobberman(where he raised funding from Tiger Global).https://pitchbook.com/profiles/investor/462302-11#overview 16 Likes 3 Shares |

Tech is the new oil. Someone just made millions of dollars couple of minutes ago online, all while sitting in his room. When I see many Nigeria youths who claim to be jobless but these same youths sub data and waste all data and their lives every moment going from one celeb page to another on SM commenting on wetin no concern them. Fighting on BBN, Pessi and Penaldo etc. Wasting away everyday. Is it not young people like you sponsoring BBN this year? Does Ronaldo even have time arguing about himself? He's always busy in gym building himself to earn more. But Nigerians youths roam internet aimlessly everyday, wasting away but later they'll blame village people. Many people poverty na follow come and follow go. It's a choice. 92 Likes 8 Shares |

The tech sector has the potentials of generating huge revenue for this country but it's unfortunate that the Nigerian factor isn't conducive for businesses to thrive.

Many young Nigerians are not willing to go through the process of getting trained in tech. They prefer to get trained in scamming innocent oyinbo. I just worry for their future.

Maybe, but not always. None of these people that he mentioned in his post had serious careers abroad before they moved back to Nigeria to and build the tech ecosystem down here. It's always funny to think that you have to leave Nigeria to be the best. People leave the country for a while and come back to Nigeria after a year acting like know everything. Meanwhile they are just using their overseas internship level exposure to bobo people who know far more than they do. I've worked with a lot of these so called foreign developers. Trust me, most of them are not as good as people here would want you to believe. One even told me to my face that what I was building for a telecom company was not possible. I was more shocked than angry. Shocked that someone who was in such environment does not know that so many things are possible when you have deep understanding of a technology. The only reason you'll want to go abroad is for the money and better living environment. You can get knowledge from anywhere. Indians, Chinese, Israelis and Koreans understand this and they are building and training their people at home and getting the abroad to ship jobs to their door steps. It's all about the money! 24 Likes 1 Share |

Tech is the future but our leaders are not seeing it. We have the human capacity, just a little push and our dependence on Crude Oil (whose relevance is gradually fading) as source of foreign exchange would reduce. The good thing about tech is that it will continue to be relevant till the world ends. The earlier we start harnessing our potentials the better. The other African countries are not sleeping.

Incidentally, it's not true for most unicorns in Africa, even nairaland. If it's for fee paying jobs, you need the fees from both local and overseas, especially overseas, because of the USD but to build something phenomenal, the truism that excellence is a universal language becomes apparent. The counsel is do local but think global. Excellence speaks only one language; EXCELLENCE! Anything worthwhile takes time to build whether overseas or local. This trend of quick transition to overseas especially through fund raising may end up leaving the original creators with the short end of the stick in short, medium and long term. |

If you want to be relevant in the next few years, you need to have a working knowledge of technology.

Of recent, have began to look the tech way.. People should stop making tech seem as if it is a very easy thing to venture into, they should enlighten people That it takes, focus, persistence and dedication to make it in the tech industry.. The way some people say it online makes it easy like a,b, c.. Wanted to go for data scientist or wetin dem dey call am, I was given a 30 question test and i failed woefully due to the fact that I am not tech savvy.. If you want to encourage people to go into tech, pls always endeavor to put it to them in a lay man's term.. Me I Don go back to the drawing board and believe me, we go gather dey chop this tech money soon.. There are so many things have built, that am building and will still build and am planning on inculcating tech in them. 6 Likes 1 Share |
