Casa Ava: The Finishing (40614 Views)

This is the finishing part of my personal build in Ibadan. It’s not going to be a thread on the entire build but I’ll share parts that I think are interesting. There’s nothing to see in home building that the Ogas like Spyder880, Skimanski, and the other usual suspects haven’t been showing ![]() It’ll be useful to those in the diaspora who might not be on the ground for parts of their build. It’ll also be good for techies like me to see what’s possible in home automation. I own a home automation company and this will be used to showcase a lot of the products that’s offered. Thanks. 6 Likes 1 Share |

This is showing the installation of lightning arrestor. I’m going to have lots of electronics so I need extra insurance. I can’t recommend this enough.

This is showing the custom ceiling burglary that’ll go over my kitchen balcony. The only part that can be potentially used to gain entrance by bad guys. The burglary will also be electrified.

Ishilove: Some building plans lend themselves to a void that robbers can utilize to gain access into the house. I could have used brick also to extend the wall to the roof but I actually needed that open so I can install a whole house fan. I’ll share some pictures of robbers gaining entry through the roof. 1 Like 1 Share |

justified007: Normally you’ll have the brickwork at the edge of the house where the roof meets. The issue I have is only a few designs especially ones with entry lobbies. |

Ishilove: For real? Ah! You are too innocent for this country. A lot of shops that sell expensive things have burglary proof in their ceilings and walls too. Ishilove: Yes they do. Some put and cover it up. ![]() 2 Likes 1 Share |

Ishilove:Ceiling burglary is not actually a new thing in Port Harcourt stores but have seen were thief's came with car jack to still open/ broke it up. The electrical part is actually a nice addition to it. 2 Likes 1 Share |

In the past, I was vehemently against casement windows with encased burglary bars but have “opened” my mind. There are 21 windows of various sizes. Pros: 1) Gives a more finished look. No burglary, of any type, is better of course but I find this to be the best amongst the worst. 2) Single installation is more efficient for masons. 3) Less cost because you’re removing the charge to install burglary after window. Automation Hint: every single door and window will monitored via a sensor that’ll let me know via the hub if it’s open or closed plus the temperature at that location. 4 Likes 1 Share |

I’m opting for the classic wooden doors of yesteryears. In my opinion, laziness coupled with lack of tools and materials have made steel doors to be popular in Nigeria. I had custom wood frames made and embedded in the concrete. Martini101: The house sits behind a fence with razor wires, at least two socially unadjusted Dobermans and the “grill” is inside of a roof. Let’s just say I won’t be in a hurry to come out of my safe room to render aid ![]() 4 Likes |

EgunMogaji2: I love wooden doors too. I think it is security that made us go for steel doors. Especially for entry points. ![]() 4 Likes 2 Shares |

pocohantas: It’s relatively easy and commonly done to embed steel within. I’ll show you a pic shortly. All I can advice is not to fall for the lazy that’s how we do it here in naija. 1 Like 1 Share |
