Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, on Thursday, faulted the removal of history subject school curriculum in Nigeria.

The governor, who spoke in Makurdi at ‘Media Week and Communications Day 2021’ organized by the Directorate of Social Communications, Catholic Diocese of Makurdi, said the removal would prevent posterity from having knowledge of important events in the country.

According to him, if the Federal Government fails to restore the subject, the state government would initiate law to ensure it is taught in Benue schools.

The governor said: “Removing the subject History from the country’s school curriculum is an evil agenda to prevent the young generation from knowing their past.

“Even if Nigeria won’t restore the study of history to the school curriculum, we in Benue will initiate a legislation to make history a compulsory subject in schools in the state.

“Our children need to know how their forefathers lived on this land hundreds of years ago. Our children need to know what took place at Ushongo Hills in 1804 and why this land and our people were not conquered till this day.”

The one sad thing about our history is that majority of the people we study in our history are the same people ruling us, the likes of Buhari, TY Danjuma, Obasanjo, Atiku, Sule Lamido, Gambari etc that ruled us in the past which made up of our history are the same people ruling us and they are mostly Fulanis.
I now ask what is really our history?

Fulanis don't want us to know that they were originally not Nigerians, but they forget to know that one don't really need to study history in school b4 knowing his or her origin

It is the greatest evil ever inflicted on we Nigerians and I am grateful Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, whom I have never given the time of day until now I shamefully confess, for saying it.

May we be empowered to find the tree and pluck of its fruit and eat to see for ourselves with our own senses if on the day that we eat we shall surely die or if our eyes will open and we gain wisdom.

Education is not the consumption of facts but the learning of the ability to use one's mind.

It is therefore up to the students to not just believe what they are told by the teachers, as I have shown with my post above, but that the students learn to use the brain in their head instead of living by bread alone and becoming malnourished.
