Which kind yeye comments be that? He shouldnt have been that direct biko. Eg, Good performance but Kunle needs to work on participating more in class. Instead of saying too quiet ![]() Fair performance, Deborah needs to socialise more with other well performing students. Instead of saying she keeps gang ![]() Excellent performance, Chukwuemeka needs to be less playful...instead of saying too playful Good performance, Amarachi needs to work on being more cooperative with her teachers.....instead saying shes rude ![]() 16 Likes 1 Share |

I don't think your friend meant any harm. Besides, the comment section is there to be used for all sorts of s, good or bad. But then again, his choice of words aren't exactly the best. He wrote as if he was talking about some boys he met on the street and not his own students whose well-being really matters to him. Next time, let him make the message more personal (by using the kid's name and using expressions in place of single nouns). And most importantly, he shouldn't define any kid by the flaws shown within the report period (I think this is the most glaring fault here). Instead, he should make it clear the flaws are periodic too. For example, the comment, "he is a truant" makes it seem as if you're calling the kid names. It's as if the teacher has already given up on the child. The same comment could be written as "Eric has missed classes a couple of times this term without permission and this has affected her performance negatively". It still means the same thing but significantly better. Using his name shows connection; specifying the period shows it's a moment in the kid's life and not who he is; using the expression "missed classes without permission" in place of "truant" shows respect for the kid and his parents; adding the effect of the truancy shows concern Let's not forget parents send thier kids to school to correct these things and not just to observe them and give reports. 8 Likes |

I wonder what will become of school in the future. I the teacher 100%. In our days when you score 0, the teacher will draw it with eyes, nose and mouth. But this days teachers are not allowed to fail student. I went to public school and the last time i saw my report cards, I felt proud of myself. The report cards does not shape your future, its just memory, I dont want it to be laced with lies 13 Likes 2 Shares |

officialmario:And these should come after highlighting a positive attribute in such student. The comments should be solution driven. If there is a place for discussion on child's pressing negative attributes, it should be on phone or face-to-face with the parents and doesn't need to wait until end of term. 6 Likes |

This is very common in private schools.. although I agree with the fact that the teacher could have been more constructive in his English but the truth should not be covered up. This comments should then guide the parents in scolding the child Meanwhile holidays are here, buy educational kids tablets for that child you love. So they can play and learn all through the holidays. Call or send a WhatsApp message to 08092864923 |

It's just common sense and use of diplomacy, there are more subtle words that es across this message and still provides recommendations, use your heads that is why you went.to school, . These remarks feels.like the teacher has a personal issues with the child, Attitude like this won't take him very far in life. Politics and diplomacy is the oil with which we eat this life , the guys who feel being direct is cool, often become a problem to everyone around them, they hardly rise in the economic ladder and end up being those old aggressive men who take life too seriously and blame the younger generation for everything 6 Likes |

DesChyko: So what is the difference between telling the parents face to face and writing it on the child's report card? The wait period? Will it still change the fact that the child has bad behaviour that has to be cautioned? These days, education has gone to the dogs, even parenting, you'd see some parents pampering their child in an obvious wrong doing, enabling nonsense, without knowing they are destroying the child little by little, Proprietors of private schools nko, telling teachers not to do this and that cos that they don't want to loose students because of money, thereby enabling nonsense. During my time, I didn't even go to a public school, I went to the best private school in KANO state from early to the late 90s, and they beat us wella, in my report card, my class teacher always say that I'm troublesome, and always make noise in class, which is the truth cos me sef know say I dey very troublesome when I was small, my parents never picked offense, instead, they cautioned me and also assigned a very wicked teacher(uncle Ejimadu, God rest his soul) to discipline me, and today, I'm better for it. We need to stop enabling kids of these days all in the name of trying to be woke. 9 Likes 3 Shares |

Biglittlelois:The difference is that the comment section doesn't give room for instant messaging. It doesn't give room for a conversation. And it can only contain a limited number of information. Nothing beats handling ills as soon as they are confirmed. These days, education has gone to the dogs, even parenting, you'd see some parents pampering their child in an obvious wrong doing, enabling nonsense, without knowing they are destroying the child little by little. All of these are mentoring and parenting faults. They have no connection to the topic at hand. Proprietors of private schools nko, telling teachers not to do this and that cos that they don't want to loose students because of money, thereby enabling nonsense. This is very prevalent in private schools. It shouldn't be encouraged at all. During my time, I didn't even go to a public school, I went to the best private school in KANO state from early to the late 90s, and they beat us wella, in my report card, my class teacher always say that I'm troublesome, and always make noise in class, which is the truth cos me sef know say I dey very troublesome when I was small, my parents never picked offense, instead, they cautioned me and also assigned a very wicked teacher(uncle Ejimadu, God rest his soul) to discipline me, and today, I'm better for it.We all know how it was then. Unfortunately, things like that are punishable by law these days. The current education codes applicable in Nigeria today are heavily child-centred. Schools these days are made to incorporate Child care and safety standards. Most of those common place practices then are being shown for the dehumanizing and derogatory practices they are today. One must conform to the 21st century standards. We need to stop enabling kids of these days all in the name of trying to be woke.I won't pretend to understand what you mean by 'being woke' in this case but if as adults, you are unwilling to conform to today's demands in the field, what moral justification do we have over a child's unwillingness to outgrow their childish tendencies? 2 Likes |

Some can be so funny on this forum So we should not say the truth becos of ward, parents or the scbool owner Let call spade a spade What is not good is not good, it doesnt have any other name is not good we will still call it For heaven sake this is a report card whichypu have to give a comment on the behavior of the ward Thats why it called an academics report and moral report Damn! Some just dey talk shit for here These reports even helps the parents to know what the child is hiding from them I could back in those day primary school and secondary shool those comments on our card helps our parents to know the kind of things we are capable of doing in school and it will belp them to teach us more at home Ogbeni, make we no dey deceive ourselves wetin the owner of the school no make sense Better still the owner of the school should have given them words to write on the card to favor the kids This is what the principal of my PPA during youth service in taraba did He made sure we wrote all those sweet things to favor the kids But those behavior are deadlier than boko haram in school 10 Likes |

babajeje123: Exactly, any other discoveries should be told to the parents directly. That's an official document it can affect the child's future, someone can use that "gang comment" against him especially if the ward is contesting for a position and that "truant" comment is over top. 1 Like |

The thing wey I wan tok.. Gbadebo01, sisisioge, WoundedLamb, DesChyko, all of dem don tok am finish.. You don't just capitalize on the shortcomings or wrongdoings of others, that's why there's something called "constructive criticism".. Everybody is giving comparison about how things were done during their own time, everybody dey tok sey na all those "naked truth" catapult us reach where we dey now.. Indeed, quite alot of Nigerians do not know much about mental health, yet everybody say they're depressed, some are at the brink of commiting suicide, there are expectations, nobody cares to actually put themselves in the shoes of others, empathy means nothing, "make we just tok am like dat jare afterall we sef see the one wey worse this one", everybody is frustrated, tomorrow when e commit suicide, "ehyaaa and im dey hardworking, she dey very nice, dem no get wahala, wetin cause am, but e no suppose reach laidis na", na like this e dey start sha, small small water go don bridge.. Anyways, I don't intend to digress further I am not oblivious to the fact that education is purely business to private school owners.. Most of them are not educationists, they probably did their research and closed in on the idea of running a school just cos it's a decently lucrative venture.. Most run their schools in a way that they are more than ready to lower the already low Nigerian standard of education just to give assurance of undiluted satisfaction to their clients; more clients = more money.. In that same vein, anything/anybody that will stand as a stumbling block to their constant cash inflow is automatically a threat and they won't as much as bat an eyelid to crush it.. Wrong choice of words on the part of your friend though but the school telling him to apologize to the parents is just outrageous.. Apologize for what exactly? For being blunt about it, but that wouldn't actually change anything rather it'd make it seem like the parents are enabling the children, that they're okay with their excesses afterall they got that "aproko" teacher to beg.. Personally yh, for me bah, I prefer being told directly, even if the teacher wants to be blunt about it, I'd respect that.. Just tell me in the heat of the moment so I know what I'm up against and lay down plans to tackle it as e dey hot, no worry about proprietor/proprietress, na only "bring money" "bring thiss, bring thaat" those ones know, I'm more concerned about my wards moral conduct, academic progress & total well-being . If my pikin do anyhow for sch, onkuu teacher/hanty teacher please feel free to call me/flash me, send me an sms, I go call you back still appreciate you kindly, if you maa wan come house no wahala.. Open Day, tell me every every, no hide anything, no fear, just be real with me, let's help nurture reasonably responsible intellectuals.. Yes, na true sey las las pikin wey wan spoil go spoil, whether teacher inform their parents as e dey happen or dem write am for end of term report card, whether dem write am anyhow for there or dem soffry write am.. Wetin I know be say, there are many ways to a message across; be logical about it.. No be everybody dey see am as driving force to be better, some people have anxiety issues, some get depressed, some don't see any reason to forge ahead, some feel worthless and just need one mean statement to "officially throw in the towel". - My 2kobo sha 6 Likes |

chidieberesk3: Yes, I have. And no, I wouldn't call my student "a thief" on his report simply cause he stole things during the term. I'd rather state it that he stole things. Kids are kids and their actions don't define them. Calling him a thief simply means the teacher has resigned to fate. And no parent would stand you calling thier kid a thief. That's an example of what I'm trying to say, sir. 1 Like |

officialmario:Your friend is not wise. The whole system is built on hypocrisy he should have pretend to be one. Especially in schools, parents know their kids behaviour all they need is for you to be silent, modern day teachers should flee from commenting on child moral especially private school. The whole system is totally different now. We all know our politicians are thieves but we still them to get what we want. As a teacher, pick your comments and i blame the school for not giving him comment guide. |
