Bluelabs: In August 2010, Bluelabs Limited conceptualised and developed an 'inspirational song called Transformation', to get the youth engaged in the electoral process and possibly pitch to interested parties for campaign purposes. We then produced a video (set against a montage of sweeping imagery designed to evoke a sense of patriotism) for the 'transformation' song and made it available for viewing on a website.

In March 2011, it came to our attention that the Buhari/Bakare team of the Congress for Progressive Change (C) had placed a video on all C's official e-channels (Buhari/Bakare Official Facebook page, youtube and the website) and the video was going viral.

To our greatest consternation, the video was set against our Transformation Song and adopted similar graphics. The that viewers gave the video would have been extremely pleasing to the C, as many commentators remarked on how overwhelmed they were by the song, how patriotic it made them feel and how it had changed their minds tovote for the C.

While we were delighted at the testament to the quality of our company's work, we felt seriously aggrieved that our song had been ripped and used in broadcasts without authorisation or license from us.

It is therefore incumbent upon us to inform Nigerians and the world at large that the C cannot be the bastion of honesty it purports to be if it is the policy of the party to dismiss the legitimate claims of young, honest, hardworking Nigerians for just recompense for the fruit of their labour.

C cannot say that it respects the Rule of Law if it has abject disregard for the fundamentals of the Nigerian Copyright Act. If Buhari and Bakare staff their campaign HQ with people who have displayed no semblance of an understanding of such basic principles, what hope can Nigerians have for the kind of government they would form if elected? If their campaign office is staffed with people who think refusal of service of a letter is appropriate because elections are only 7 days away, or under any circumstances at all, can we expect them to form a decent and civil government?

The Buhari/Bakare team stole our idea. They stole our intellectual property. They have refused to even discuss compensation with us despite the adulation that our work has now garnered for them.

us against this injustice. us in our quest to demonstrate that there is no time, be it 7 months or 7 days to the elections when it is right to cheat people of the fruit of their labour.

We invite you to watch our video, then watch theirs and draw your conclusion.

shock horror shocked shocked

i'd say there are bigger things going at the moment though.

p.s. me thinks that someone who owned the rights to the song sold it on to our good friends at C and just forgot to word on to the rest of his homies.

Continuity, human rights, and privatization. That's GEJ. That doesn't mean I'll vote for PDP at state level.

Continuity: Every time a new regime comes in, they cancel old projects and start new ones that are no better.
Human Rights: GEJ feels his ambition is not worth spilling blood, and doesn't close newspapers or TV stations.

But truly, this has nothing to do with the subject matter, so let's raise it on another thread, if necessary.

I agree with you 100%. Especially on privatization. There are some business savvy individuals on Nairaland.

yes, a continuation of old corrupt PDP policies that enrich nobody but the few. unless you can name me a mass employment scheme, or in fact any decent policy that might affect the average nigerian, that he has introduced in his last 12 months? (apart from that textile mill thingy)

as for his humans rights, well: it's ok for him to go on to tv and preach no violence but actions speak louder than words. and i'm sorry but if you've been reading newspapers then you'll see that his people do feel that his ambition is worth spilling blood over; in fact you'll see it all the time (you do realise that two CHILDREN were shot in the head for being part of the crowd that were throwing rocks at his convoy in Nasarawa). unless of course you've been reading The Punch, The Vanguard, et el or watching NTA in which case everything is rosy, which brings me onto your final point: this freedom of the press. dude, our press are the most despicable, corrupt bunch of sellouts that i've ever come across. they are a laughing stock. half of them should be shut down.

In one side of your mouth, you said that a volunteer made the ad, and with another side you called the bluelabs guys opportunists. Is that the way you guys volunteer for Buhari? By cheating people and deprieving them of thier property?

I guess denying a man the right to freedom even after the court freed him is human rights undecided

Teslim Folarin is still walking free o! and we still don't know who killed Bola Ige, Dipo Dina and co.

So, denying the opposition equal access to publicly funded TV and radio is human rights.

Projects? like Nairaland? Buhari wan cancel GSM ni? abi PDP don PIB? FOI bill?

Will Buhari scrap the building projects going on at Lekki? or will he cancel Oil contracts? What projects?

The devil we know needs to be chased away. Cast out PDP!

Otokx, e be like say you never make up your mind gon.

Abeg make una no disturb Seun o. Buhari is the kinda guy that can shut down Nairaland if Beaf types something he doesn't like. True talk!

Continuity is neither here nor there.

As for human rights, well I think firing squads are needed more than human rights. Ask Jerry Rawlings.

You have not addressed the issue of copyright infringement and intellectual property rights.
Question: Does the volunteer own any rights to the song?

All I am saying is that blame should be directed at the volunteer who created the Ad. From what we are hearing the volunteer did not have the right to the song. The owner of song should transfer his anger on the volunteer.
aletheia(m): 3:12am On Apr 01, 2011
^^I have a question to ask: Has Buhari's campaign organization used the song for its purposes? If the answer is yes, then sentiments aside; they are also culpable and the least they can do is apologize.

I really dont see how PDP is the problem here.

PDP is not an ideological party, neither is C nor ACN. It is party formed on the basis of who gets along with whom. Knowing that, explaining how GEJ is no different from Buhari becomes very easy.

And like Olori oko said, for the sake of continuity, it would be fool-hardy really to change baton at this point.

And, BTW, you never chase away the devil you know. As a matter of fact, you embrace it and learn to work with it. The devil is here to stay, and I would rather prefer a situation where we know the devil to a situation where the devil lives with us in a different form, disguised as the saint

There is no need working with the devil you know. This devil will always act her nature, she can't reform herself and yes you can chase away the devil you know and try another one. Lol

There is no point running a relay you know you are going to lose, Better to pawn the baton than bother exchanging the darn thing.

I know you can't vote for GEJ anyway. Fisile! Owo e a ro to ba try e grin

This song was released to the Public Domain and on Youtube for that matter. And secondly, do we ever know how C got this song, maybe one of the inner guys in Bluelabs slipped it to them behind their back.
