Why are there so many different denominations within Christianity?
kodewrita(m): 7:54am On Feb 17, 2011
Because its a faith dependent on freewill. the free will gets exercised too frequently independent of inspiration or biblical grounding hence the tendency for people to keep creating their own philosophies.

besides if you look closely, they only have different names, but they are not so different in their teaching. different preachers just stress different parts but they all have common ideas and beliefs. thats why its so easy to attend redeemed in one city and loveworld in the next and winner's chapel somewhere else. the farther you get away from lagos or the main church, the more they all seem the same.

Christianity is the best model for Capitalist Societies, it is Free-Enterprise grin that is why there are fewer Islamic divisions - those Religious Fascists angry (oops. my bad - sorry guys)

Yet 99% of them are not following the core teachings of christ or even preaching the true gospel.
Jenwitemi(m): 4:24pm On Feb 17, 2011
And what are the core teachings? Do the whites who brought this religion to us know? Does anybody even know?

@jenwitemi
The core teachings are very well documented in the gosperls and is avaible for every genuine seeker to read.
Jenwitemi(m): 1:49am On Feb 18, 2011
Are they, really? If that is so, how come people of the faith are so confused about them? You know what i think? I think that the teachings are not even there in the canonical gospels to a very large extent. The gospels that contained the core teachings are not in the canons. That is already well known these days. I put it to you that the christianity that you are imbibed in by the whites is totally bereft of the core teachings of Jesus. Prove me wrong if you can.

So why don't yoi avail me of his core teachings since you are privy to them. Till then the cannonized ones in the gospels would suffice.

The same Jesus, different revelation
Jenwitemi(m): 9:48pm On Feb 18, 2011
The core teaching is very simple, yet extremely difficult to comprehend by many; become your own saviour by taking the inner journey back to your true self, and hence, to the kingdom of heaven, for God lies within us all. That is the only way to salvation and not all the personality worship you christians waste all your life doing. That is the core teaching of Jesus. Take the inner journey within you to find the christ within, your true self. You won't get that in the canons because all the canons tell you is to look outward at the church(and it's structures) for your salvation(outward journey which is futile). There is nothing there except cash thieving tithe collecting pastors.

we are not to look within ourselves for some christ within. we are to look ONTO jesus christ. its just neo-buddhist new age teaching that you are camouflaging as christianity.
Jenwitemi(m): 6:06pm On Feb 21, 2011
The christian part of Mankind has been looking at the image of Jesus for almost 2000 years. What good has that brought, i ask? Was it not written somewhere in the bible that the kingdom of heaven is within each one of us?Think about that.
kodewrita:

That which you call "new age teaching" was what Jesus also taught in his days. Is the clasping of hands that Jesus was doing in his days, that christians inherited, not an eastern import? Think about that.

my central theme is that you cant save yourself.

Prov 20:24: A man’s steps are from the Lord; how then can man understand his way?

So how do you think you can save yourself by looking within. its not within you
KunleOshob(m): 10:19am On Feb 22, 2011
@Jenwitemi
I do agree with you that there is a lot of mis-understanding and mis-conceptions amongst the "follwers" of christ today. Christians have largely missed the plot and the church is not helping matters, but the gospels still give a lot of insight as to what christ's teachings and these teachings could only have originated from a higher source.
Jenwitemi(m): 3:46pm On Feb 22, 2011
I know what your central theme is, but if you can't or won't save yourself, then you are doomed. Nobody else can save you but you. The resposibilities lie with you and not with anybody else. Not even with Jesus. Anybody who tells you otherwise is merely deceiving you.

The core teachings of Jesus are about this fact. Jesus was just a pointer pointing to the glory of God which is within each and every human being. That which we have failed to realize and recognize. You should be and are your own saviour. If you have not realize this yet, then you are headed for doom and damnation.

The church is there NOT to help matters, kunle! That is why it exists. It's existence was not only built on distorting, warping, twisting and corrupting the true teachings of Jesus right from the get go, but it's continued existence also relies totally on continually warping, distorting, misinforming and disinforming the followers. And most effective tool of the church and it's clergy(or maybe it is the other way around, clergy and it's church) is the bible itself. The true teachings of Jesus had been edited out long before people like you ever set your sight on it. To even get a sniff of what Jesus' true teachings are, you have to look OUTSIDE the canons because they are largely not in there, and they were meant not to be in there because Jesus' teaching were about empowering the individual (by showing them the way back to their true self) and not about disempowerment, which is what the church has always - and still is - about.

You christians still have a long long way to go as far as rediscovering what Jesus true teachings were about, because you guys are so far off that what you think Jesus taught is almost diametrically opposite to what his true teachings really were and meant to achieve. No wonder the christian religion is upside down and ravaged with crisis. It has to be so! It is inevitable!

So were can I locate these core teachings of christ? You seem to have access to them.
maclatunji: 11:06am On Feb 23, 2011
Did Jesus ever build a church or worship in a church? Where is it written in the Bible that the name of the religion of Jesus is Christianity. The truth of the matter is that Christianity is an invention or innovation if you like, it is not a religion. That is the truth but people who have been brainwashed from infancy will come here and argue with these points.

I gave you a link once to an Irish catholic reverend called, Micael Ledwith. Utube him to get more insights. He has books out and also DVDs on this very topic. He is definitely not your average clergy because he concentrates mainly on apocryphals.

The journey of salvation is inwards, innerly, and not outwards. I thought you would have realized that by now because you seem to be a christian that is seeking for the truth.

Aha, the game is afoot.

Now we know the source of all the problems. You would rather we believe that jesus dying on the cross WAS JUST A POINTER and he wasnt meant to be the saviour but we ourselves,

You would rather we discard the bible and search for some extra-canon because some irish priest fell in love with the Gnostics and decided to pen a diary. Heretics have been writing their own books for centuries, Ledwith will not be different.

whatever the name we call it, a dog will still be a dog. the important thing is that you believe that christ is the way, truth and the life and that he died for you and that no one comes to the father except through HIM (not even Michael Ledwith or even through looking into your own innards, Jenwitemi take note) that there is a God in heaven.

clearly the name "christian" was originally an insult but has been taken as an emblem nowadays. I call myself a christ-follower but I fill in christianity on forms because thats how the govt understands it.

The question is "Do you believe in Christ and God?"
maclatunji: 1:56pm On Feb 23, 2011
"No matter the name you call it, a dog is still a dog." However, it becomes a problem when you start calling a cat "a dog" and expect the world to follow you.
