Former Lagos commissioners, Mr Olusegun Banjo (Economic Planning and Budget) and Mr Olawale Oluwo (Energy and Mineral Resources), have denied indicting ex-governor Akinwunmi Ambode before an ad hoc committee of the state House of Assembly.

The men on Thursday refuted reports that they incriminated their former boss in the statements they made to the committee.

Rather, they insisted that that ant-General of Lagos State, Mrs Shukrat Umar, buttressed their claims when she told the committee on Wednesday that the State Executive Council approved the budget for the purchase of 820 vehicles for the state.

The Assembly had claimed that Ambode did not get approval for the purchase of the buses and subsequently set up a probe committee.

The committee had summoned the former commissioners and some other government officials to make statements on the project.

Banjo and Oluwo were reported to have indicted Ambode when they appeared before the committee.

But the former commissioners in separate statements said the reports were a misrepresentation of what transpired at the proceedings of the committee.

Banjo said he told the lawmakers that he was appointed in February 2018 when the issue of bus purchase had already been on the ground.

He pointed out that the issue was not contained in the budget he managed, though it could have been in earlier budgets.

Oluwo acknowledged that he attended the second session of the committee on October 15 alongside a former Commissioner for Agriculture, Toyin Suara.

For the avoidance of doubt, I reiterate that I did not and could never have indicted Akinwunmi Ambode. I am a committed democrat, a loyal team player and a strong believer in the principle of collective responsibility,” he said.

ambode was a tin god when he was in the seat, and the commissioners were merely rubber stamps.

he listened to nobody and ran roughshod over everybody.

more importantly, one of his first acts was a sacking spree where several people from the previous istration deemed to be fashola loyalists were sacked. then there was visionscape, which while visionary and ultimately too far ahead of its time, took jobs from PSP owners. the man made enemies everywhere. you want to make enemies like that, your delivery had better be superlative.

this is more the revenge of lagos civil service than the actions of tinubu. so many people have fought tinubu in the past. he had issues with fashola, obanikoro stationed the army outside bourdillon. fights with femi pedro as well. but none of those culminated in investigation

Fashola was Almost impeached due to differences he had with Bola Tinubu. He was not impeached, but was almost because the Assembly 'cooked' up some frivolous allegations against him in 2009. Immediately he reconciled with Tinubu courtesy of Baba Bisi Akande, Aregbesola etc All the frivolous allegations were not followed through.

If he didn't reconcile, he may have been kicked out and not allowed to contest in 2011, just as they did to Ambode in 2018, when the introduced Sanwoolu in September, 2018.

It has emerged that of the Lagos State House of Assembly actually collated signatures to sack Governor Babatunde Fashola after seven impeachable offences were allegedly established against him days after he and the Action Congress (AC) denied any infighting in the party.

A source at the Alausa seat of power in the state said the signature collation followed months of complaints that Fashola was going it alone without carrying along the Assembly and the party chieftains, who are said to be upset at the man for not oiling the AC machinery as expected of a loyal party man.

The source said the Assemblymen had complained to former Governor, Bola Tinubu, that Fashola was not carrying them along, and were told to exercise restraints, as their grievances would be addressed.

Saturday Independent was further informed that “Tinubu also told them of his frustration with the man on many fronts. However, he promised to talk to him. I can confirm to you that the former Governor once came to the Round House and he almost wept. He asked the man in charge what his offences were to deserve some treatments being meted to him.

This was 2009.
