I have never been asked such in person. I would never ask such in person.

Asking this question implies that you are not seeing the qualities you desire in the other person. So, they would have to "market" themselves. This could portray me as undiscerning or downright condescending.

I believe from asking sensible questions, not the "what are you wearing?" kinda question. You can tell a lot about a person's values- by extension, what they can offer.
