Wow. So the percentage is that high? They basically are making their money here and repatriating back home.
They are actually repatriating it back to Mauritius to avoid huge taxes.

Mauritius has incredibly low taxes, but the money is still distributed to investors in South Africa as the company is listed on the Johannesburg stock exchange.

Let’s even assume it’s only one percent that is owned by Nigerians.. the fact is we own part of it.. are we not technically affecting our own.??. let’s now assume we are not even part of the shareholders... no be our brothers and sisters dey work for shoprite and MTN...
Me I don’t know shaaa...I’m not happy about the attacks but just because South Africans decided to be stupidd and heartless does not mean that we should in their stupidityy....our employment rate is already hitting the roofs who will employ all the MTN and shoprite staff if we decide to destroy their business and send them home... I don’t even get how MTN is the cause of xenophobic attack back in their country
No, I am against destroying the company, but I am also against those that want to take Nigerians for a fool claiming MTN belongs to Nigerians.

As you can see, South African investors still have the commanding shares in MTN in Nigeria.
Emmanuel226(m): 7:49am On Sep 05, 2019

Bro that is truth.

Ironically, Shoprite which is the most Nigerian of the companies is the most targeted.

ShopRite is a franchise and most of those stores are owned by Nigerians.

There has always been resistance and that will only sustain them.

Mere political statement by Nigerians hasn't yield any results so let them defend themselves even a little...is welcome.

Number 5 shows that 38 billion of civil servants pensions was invested in MTN. If MTN closes down, civil servants would loose their pensions invested in d company

Truth is, we dont have the leverage needed to deal those guys a good blow at the moment. Whatever economic punishment we try to bring upon them will tell on us more than it would them.

That is the ugly truth. Diplomatically, we might hurt them, economically, i dont think so.

Wait is there something I’m not getting here?? why exactly are we trying to “deal a good blow” to South African companies on our own soil because of the evil committed by hoodlums and irrational people in their home country... are we not the ones hoping the actions of few Nigerians should not be a yardstick in judging other Nigerians...
Why do we even want to hurt them economically or diplomatically..?? Our friends, family, Nigerians work in these companies... let’s be real

Meanwhile, am not looking at the xenophobic attack on serious angle despite condemnation.

I have made it overtly clear on Facebook by telling Igbos in South Africa to remain and fight and if they die fighting, they died honourably fighting to defend themselves and future they have built.

They should at sametime rule out coming back to Nigeria. Even if you come back to Nigeria, u will still be killed at slightest issue.

Airpeace coming to evacuate anyone should be sent back in peace. That's never the solution rather fight back.

The Nigeria they want to return you, is same Nigeria you left because of the situation of the country. So even here is not safe for coming back. Situations here is even more volatile.

Stay there, fight back.

This poster can just use his parents for money rituals. Money is more important than life to him. This is how madness starts.

I think MTN should be nationalized by the Nigerian Federal Government and resold to. the masses.

ornicus:
look at this fooking idiot.

for all their faults, MTN has done more for this country than this twitter rat

how many people has FFK been able to provide employment for?
useless lout who could only function as a noisemaker
reduced to an online blogger who has heart problems anytime efcc calls

and of course, the ignorant stupid youth, who have no idea about how business works listen to this bastard

Nigerians sell diesel to MTN
Nigerians work in MTN offices as full staff, staff , 3rd pparty staff
Nigerian businesses supply different services to MTN - maintenance of facilities, toilet roll, consultancy food for canteen.

all these kids shouting emptyhen have no idea how much cash mtn's entry into nigeria injected into the country

everywhere there is a mast, the owner of the land was paid
every facility they have was designed and built by nigerians
when i was much younger, kids the age of these noisemakers with more gumption were selling recharge cards

I wonder where FFK's name is - the greatest nigerian demagogic noisemakers

stupid, rabble rousing mothfcker

And you that this one once held the position of a minister in Nigeria should tell you how bad we have had it. His point of saying this is to make irate mobs burn down man offices and get arrested while he and his kids are somewhere safe from arrest and bullets from our untrained police force

Exactly, very u fortunate post by him

So we should be lawless because there is xenophobia in SA

Tell us how you want the "fighting back" to take place - be more detailed. You can't just tell them to fight back without telling them how it should be done. You people should take your ethnic stupidity out of this issue so we can speak as Nigerians.

The shares that belongs to SA firms and subsidiaries is almost 90% while Nigerians owns 10%

Most multinational company only allow up to 40% of other investors. In most instance, no individual is allowed up to 5% holding. This places the original owners in fair advantage. So, when people say Nigeria has major shares in mtn, it's quite laughable. Ffk breaking down the statistics is a bit to educate a lot of us but definitely not in a tense time like this

We have to speak on different ethnic level to achieve the desired results...not as Nigerians.
