These are not ordinary kidnappers, they were formerly herdsmen.
They now operate freely on expressways at any hour of the day.
They kidnap people and disappear into the forest afterwards, yet the police are still sleeping..

I've had a serious need to travel to Benin for a project for more than 6 months now, but I won't go, due to a first hand report of day light armed robbery. I'm sure someone will tell me its not that bad but I just can't be bothered to take the risk.

Restricting one's travel outside Lagos is one coping strategy I've adopted. Not that Lagos sef is that safe.

Owo - Benin, kidnapping
Akure - Owo, Kidnapping
Idoani - Ifon, kidnapping (avoid this road at all cost)
Akure - Ilesha, kidnapping
Akure-Ado-Ekiti, kidnapping
Ore-Benin, kidnapping
Ore-Lagos, kidnapping.

I'm told the only major road in Ondo-State without kidnapping (yet) is Akure - Ondo- Ore.

Most surviving victims insist their kidnappers spoke 'Hausa'. I suspect local perpetrators must be involved too.

All over the State, travellers face serious risk of kidnap, but most people just don't know or are so confused about solutions that they hope it'll all go away quietly. But it is only getting worse.
please can you provide a solution as they have no idea what to do not doing any thing about it as you rightly said would make a bad situation worse

Ultimately citizens on their own can't deal with the crisis. What they can do though is make the kidnapping menace the predominant issue in public discuss on local radio, TV stations, market & work places. This will raise awareness and hopefully increase pressure on the State govt to tackle the issue.

Truth though is that, I don't think there are easy solutions

For me, I believe there's a direct correlation between the deteriorating economic situation in the country the the rising spate of economic violence, such as kidnapping.

Unless the economic situation improves drastically & soon, the Nigerian society faces worsening chaos.

Guy, kidnappers, Yahoo, armed robbers, they all the same thing. If you any of them, you're also a criminal.

That's what I thought too. But on a second thought, they're slowly creeping in into Lagos and I think that's their plan.

not sure I would be traveling by road anytime soon

I'm yet to fully understand why government isn't taking this kidnapping thing serious. The lot of the common man in Nigeria is incredibly difficult.....the common man benefits absolutely NOTHING from government apart from pain, sorrow and more pain.

I wasn't told bro. I am a living witness. I made it out just because I got a phone call from a friend, and I needed to make the call privately. Before I could take more 3 steps they stormed in. And I had to run without looking back. Imagine a situation where a market was robbed. I am against Yahoo. But the government has to look for better means unless they will surely be victims too.

And I want to travel on this route next week.

Our government allowed kidnapping to grow in Nigeria from industrial crisis related to what illiterate criminal minded people have seen as very lucrative 'business' they just kidnap just for ransom. They keep you with them and you arrange the ransom to free yourself, if you cant you die they will sell your body parts.
It's that bad today. The government is still under-estimating the level of action and surveillance needed to completely reduce this menace. Security agencies truly are doing very little compared to the rate at which the syndicates are springing up, multiplying or improving their tactics.

A total breakdown of law and order. A sign of total collapse of a system that lacks proper function.

Gani Adams spoke last week. Hes ready and willing; but he doesn't want a situation where if OPC start now, they will be arrested for murder by the Police when they start killing the marauders.
Of all the Governors he ed since last year, only one directly got back to him. 3 did not even as much send a response through a messenger.

Stop praying for Nigeria
When a Governor cannot confront the kidnappers on daylight with his fortified security, what amount of prayers does a poor man require to confront them ?
