Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has reacted to Kayode Ogundamisi's tweet on twitter for saying the Akure Airport should be "shut down".

Kayode Ogundamisi reacted to a tweet that "Ekiti Airport Loading". He responded by saying "Ekiti Airport? Needless. Even Akure Airport needs to be shut down, a lot of airports across Nigeria are vanity projects. We either close Ibadan and leave Akure or close Akure and leave Ibadan. Not sustainable. Focus on South West road networks to link Oodua States."

In a series of tweet, Governor Akeredolu reacted to the tweet that it is unwise to ask for the Airport to be shut down.

In Akeredolu's tweets, "It would be most unwise to shutdown the Akure Airport. In 2018 it was the second fastest growing airport by enger traffic according to @FAAN_Official (136% growth). We have seen how that has resulted in a new terminal and Jobs at the airport. Do not kill progress."

He stressed that " This wouldn't be possible if not for the strong given the state by @flyairpeace and @OverlandAirways who fly daily to and from Lagos and Abuja respectively. We continue to appreciate your in our drive to #DevelopOndo"

Ogundamisi is right. State governments shouldn't even be operating airports since all matters to do with aviation are under the Exclusive legislative list.

State owned airports are built purely for the travel convenience and benefit of greedy politicians and corrupt elite so that they don't suffer the "indignity" of travelling on bad roads which they have abandoned for their slaves.

Everytime unsubstantiated statistics is doled out by these guys.

We all saw the air traffic report for all the states and we didn't see akure in the top 15.

Let's leave dick measuring and work.

To be honest, Ekiti doesn't need an airport

Ogundamisi is fluent at saying nonsense. You want an airport that has finally come alive to be shut down. I years ago when cattles were gathering at the Akure Airport ground for daily meetings because of low patronage. Now that it has been revived, you want it to be shut down? For what?

According to the Akure Airport Manager, Mrs Cecilia Oguama, about 20 people were patronising the Airport monthly some years ago, but said the enger traffic has increased tremendously in the last 2 years to about 4,500 people/month. This is a Result of the partnership between Akeredolu Government and Air Peace.

The truth is some of these Airport projects are mere status symbol and bragging right. Why spend so much to build an airport that is used by very few people when the masses have no good road.

Same applies to Ogun state that is building 3 needless flyover bridges around Alagbole axis when a standard road could have been enough, 8yrs down the line it has become almost an abandoned project. 2 neighbouring states that share boundary have no business building persenger airports each, it's a waste.

Rome was not built in a day this is what i been hearing right from birth sotey my papa die, wetin he enjoy for Nigeria?nothing,all those tall tall building your seeing in Dubai was not there 2002 when I was going to Dubai every two weeks to buy what we call Dubai shoe then ,did you see how fast they built every thing,Lagos state started construction of from orire to badagry road in 2009 or 2010 till today nothing is working there,still your still shouting rome was not build in a day,but they can buy private jet in a day

Why should EFCC go after an innocent man??

Ibadan airport is almost 3hrs away by car. It can't serve Akure and vice versa.

Flight from Lagos to Akure is less than 30mins and the planes are nearly full every day. Excellent for business trips to Ondo.


If you like small, no-hassle airport experience, Akure airport is a little jewel.


It must stay.
