The Delta state governor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, on Tuesday organised as state banquet in honour of the Super Eagles of Nigeria for qualifying for the 2019 African Cup of nations which will be held in Cameroon. 

The governor gifted the Nigerian football team $50,000 (over N18 million) for qualifying for AFCON 2019, as he hosted Super Eagles and Uganda players after their friendly match yesterday to the lavish dinner at the government house in Asaba. 

The governor had earlier promised to give the Super Eagles $25, 000 (nearly N9 million) for every goal scored in the AFCON qualifying match between Nigerian Super Eagles and Bafana Bafana of South Africa. 

Unfortunately the Eagles failed to score any goal.  What would have ed as the joker failed to click after Ahmed Musa’s 84th minute goal was ruled offside.

The two goals scored for and against Nigeria were all scored by the South Africans themselves.

I keep saying it.nigerian leaders are just too useless..of what use is d qualification of d super Eagles to d common man??....giving 9million naira to a group of players whose weekly take home pay is double the amount is just hopelessness.and yet d big mouthed governor would be d first to complain about minimum wage,,while Delta languishes in infrastructural debris......

The mistake leaders make in Africa is, they consider state funds as personal funds. So they do want ever they like with it.

A state that has huge infrastructural deficit, a state with no welfare scheme for its indigenes, a state owing huge salaries should have better use for every available resources.

For crying out loud, NFF has already been allocated money to adequately cater for the Super Eagles.

I tell you... the place is an eyesore... I just doesn't understand why a state capital like asaba couldn't boast of basic infrastructures.. roads are bad,erosion ravaged environments poor electricity.. name it... okowa had nothing to show for collecting one of the highest revenues in Nigeria..
