The Senate has ed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill for third reading.

The age followed the adoption of the report by the t Senate and House of Representatives committee on the bill, which was presented the Chairman, Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission, Senator Suleiman Nazif.



President Muhammadu, Buhari had withdrawn assent to the bill three times, raising various constitutional and drafting issues.

The committee had addressed the issues raised by the President in a harmonised, fourth version of the bill.

President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, who said age of the bill was “almost impossible,” expressed hope that the President would assent to the bill when transmitted by the National Assembly.

The House of Representatives has also scheduled third reading of the bill for today.

1. Have now included the provision for the Card Reader, which they mischievously removed from the last one they sent to the executive for assent; and have also made the provision for electronic voting iron-clad;
2. Have harmonized their in-house draft with the legal arm of the executive to avoid those reckless errors the legislative arm is now notorious for;
3. Will transmit it to the executive within the next legislative day or two. That will be a sensible departure from their usual grandstanding of announcing they've 'ed' a Bill and forwarded it to the executive for assent, when in actual fact they'd take a further three to six weeks just to send such a 'ed' Bill to the executive for consideration.

I thought by the 3rd reading the bill is law whether Buhari signs or not as was in the case with OBJ

I hope Buhari will not come out with another excuse not to sign the bill,
