Distant Relationship, does it work?

Welcome to share your opinion on this subject.

I personally believe in this even though am yet to meet my virtual girl friend who is far away from em and we have never met before. We have been in relationship getting to 5 years now.

Still yet to meet; everything works out for us except our physical interraction.

Has it worked for you and you got married? Or you are also in it. Share your experiences and opinions about this here.

Communication is really important in a relationship. If both parties can communicate well and trust themselves. Also it is very important to be faithful to each other and love each other well.

I think it should work, but I don't like it personally.

It works but not so well, always after so many abortions for the man by others and by the woman with uncountable abortions for another man .

No it doesn't work. In the end things fade and if you are lucky, you end up being friends.
whizkid(f): 4:07pm On Jun 14, 2005
Absence they say makes the heart grow fonder, but nothing was said about how long the absence should be, I mean maybe a few days, weeks or months but five years? That's alot. Like someone rightly said communication is important in a relationship but communication via emails, yahoo/msn messenger, telephone isn't just enough; you have to look into the eyes of whom you are communicating with, read his/her body language, get intimate not necessarily sex. 'Body no be firewood', you know grin

tony4k,

You are calling someone you never met your girlfriend and for 5 years, that must be a world record - More grease to your elbows.

I can not do it....it's a different thing if you've met the person and you are engaged or married.

Well, it depends on how distant relationships are handled. out of 10, 8 survives. Communication, sure is important but danger is spotted when communication lessens or stops with flimsy excuses: "You know, over here, we hardly have time", "It's very expensive making calls from here", "I hardly get through to your line, I don't know why" and all those stuffs.

My advice is this: whenever one's partner travels out of the country, the person should closely monitor to know when his/her attitude on him/her changes, for whatever reason and take precaution. That one is not double dating, it's just to prevent 'had I known" so that you would not be embarassed by the white women the men would always come back with under the pretence that she helped them acquire citizenship paper.

Just beware!

if it involes one of the partners outside the country then it might work if it is the female that is outside. if it is a guy, going back to what Eresi said that is the most likely scenerio. One other thing that i would like to add is that whatEresi called flimsy excuses are not flimsy excuses but are trully real and basic facts facts.

Love4ever you sabi well o!!! But don't you guys think that anyone can be anything across the air the metals the optic fibers, and all the things that make up the net or even the telephone system, but then they could be other things in flesh. Distant relationships are workable but foundation has to first be built and that is not cyberly (permit me), I am in one, I can tell.

The sage himself, where did you get those stats from ? A distant relationship works if both parties have been to gether for a while and get to really know each other, then the cyber and tele flows can truly flow, how can you tell someone how you feel about them when you say it and for once ( or a few times) you cant get to look into their eyes and read their expressions and they seee yours expressions are the vehicle on which emotions are carried, words can very easily be vain....

Hi to you all,
It's nice to read many responses to my subject. i will have to do mass addressing of your questions and further info about how we cope and managing up till now.

Let me thank you all for your contributions. I appreciate them alot and I hope this topic will last for sometimes. Will always come back to react to your concerns raised.

With my virtual babe, we started as mere friends, then I realised we have lots in common and share similar aspirations and views in life. Very open minded and humanistic. It took me time to propose because I was aware of the danger. In all, it has helped me because I stayed committed and chaste. No divided attention. Initially, her parents were not in favour but have to back down since the babe treatened to run to me here in Ghana. It's not jokes, we experience real distant healthy relationship that even physically love birds can hardly match. We are always in touch via phone, webcam, emails, sms, u name them.

Our final decision to marry will be decided when we finally meet hopefully before the end of this year. Several attemps have been made for me to visit the family but the cumbersome visa requirements will not make it possible but the parents want me visit them first before she comes down.

My babe is in touch with my family down here in Ghana and can call any of them, talk to my mum, sisters and friends.

The sad thing is that, the fire with which we started and move with is gradually dying. All the same, we still pray to meet soon and decide.

Don't be surprise to read this, we have exchanged promise rings, I ost mine and she sent hers in response. This is to show as a sign of our commitment and true love. I still wear mine and she wears mine.

All though I have not met my virtual babe before, two of my friends in Europe have met her and the family. I introduced them to her and the family. The parents invited them for lunch. That tell u more about how far we are coping, I will be back to read your reactions.

We have it btn us that, we fist became friends, siblings and then lovers so when we cannot no longer stay lovers, we are friends and foster siblings forever. they are 3 gal for their parents and have no bro so they take me also as a big bro.

Am out here not, have to go back to work.

Let me just a comment about Naija babes and guys, you are all nice people. Greetings from Ghana. those who want real friendship in Ghana, don't hesitate to link up via my email or make a date with my at online chat.

Please do ignore my mistakes. to always do unto others what you want done to you. Bye

I am into a relationship and the lady is hundreds of kilometers away. We talk to each other three to five times a day. We know everything about each other and apart from the physical , am not missing anything. Summary: Distant Relationship works for me, for others, l don't know.
IAH(f): 10:44am On Jun 15, 2005
Distant relationships could work...but that is if you have met before and you now parted later. But this one that you've not even seen each other before?? I don't know about that one ooooooooo!

Plsss ooo HND Holder what has arbortion got to do with this o.
Any way distance relationship do work but it depends on the two.But if you've not seen the person before..that one I cant say cos you need to get to know each other so well and you cant get to know each other just by mere communication cos there're so many things to relatioship than loving on the phone or through mail.
