Before you start reading this piece, I quickly want you to visit two web pages so that you will have a background picture of what I want to discuss. The first web page contains list of top domain sales to prove that you can actually make millions in domain trading, a.k.a. domaining, (http://www.dnjournal.com/ytd-sales-charts.htm). The second web page is my own domain sales page to prove that a Nigerian can be involved in domaining, (http://www.flippa.com/7977489-jobsbrowser-com). You can also visit afternic.com/domain/symbolling.com.

The first and most important step in domaining is to know what sells. Research is the key to a good domaining business and it is important to know the current trends, latest news and updates. It is important to note that mainstream news portal don't report about domaining news unless there is a big sale. Hence, you should visit sites that aggregate domaining related news, e.g. domaining.com.

The minimum start-up capital for domaining is $50 and you can invest as much as you can. It is very important to get all the necessary information and possibly training before venturing into domaining because of the risk involved. If you rush in, you may rush out. Furthermore, you should know the laws guiding domaining. The Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP) began in 1999 to protect trademark holders from cybersquatting, which is a term used to describe the act of intending to make money by ing, trafficking in or using a domain name simply to profit from the goodwill of a trademark belonging to someone else. If you buy a name that a company or someone has right to, the company or person can file a UDRP and you will be forced to give up the ownership of the name. As a result of this, it is very imperative for you to conduct your research properly and be sure that you are not buying someone else's trademark.

aloeman15:You don't need any special software for domaining, you only need your phone with internet connection. Your fund is easily transferred into your Nigerian bank , either naira or domiciliary . Your fund can also be transferred into your payoneer card, if you have one. Domaining doesn't take much time as you can spend between thirty minutes and one hour trading daily. 1 Like |

Domain appraisal is the most important factor to consider when buying and selling domain names because it will help you in making good trading decisions. A good appraisal will enable you to know the right price to buy a domain and the right price to place it for sale. The trick is to buy a valuable domain at a low price and then re-sell at a higher price. For example, I bought JobsBrowser.com (valued at $870) at $25 and sold it at $450 on auction (google jobsbrowser.com). If I had waited for the end to come and buy it, I would have sold it for about $2,500. The most popular tool used for appraisal of domain names is Estibot.com and it is common to hear 'what is the Estibot value of that domain name?' in the domaining world. Estibot appraises domain names using a statistically driven mathematical algorithm based on historical public domain name sales data, as well as vertical and search statistics related to these domains.

Before buying a domain name, there are many factors to consider. (1) Estibot Value (2) Pronunciation (3) Category/Niche (4) No Of Characters (5) Number Of Words (6) Memorability (7) Age.

Buying Domain Names: You can buy domain names at the primary and secondary domain markets. The primary market refers to ing domain names through registrars like GoDaddy, Namecheap, 1and1, Moniker and so on. It is very cheap to buy domain names from the primary market as you only need to cough out between $9 to $14 for a domain depending on the registrar you are dealing with. Unfortunately, majority of juicy domain names have been ed and that brings us to the secondary market. The secondary domain market, which is also known as the aftermarket, is the place to buy domain names that have been ed and about to expire or their owners want to sell them. Popular secondary markets include Flippa, Sedo, GoDaddy, Afternic (a subsidiary of GoDaddy), just to mention a few. Prices of domain names at the secondary market vary, depending on the value of the domain and other factors.
