All these mumu nigerian banks. They'd be using our money to do business to enrich der pockets yet, no interest for our money. Rubbish system of banking. ![]() |

Etisalat came into a seemingly saturated Nigerian telecommunications market and against all odds, made an impressive mark. She was first on many innovations and perfections. She became the village belle and enjoyed simple goodwill from across various social strata. She was impressive while the party lasted! The company came in with her 0809ja and rushed Nigerians with all manners of awoof on the network. She made it look like other networks were too stiff-necked and unreasonable. But then, there is a huge chasm between social responsibility, charity and recklessness. The freebies were unending, so much so one began to wonder if she was powered by simple dust. At a time, subscribers got paid for receiving calls on their Etisalat lines! I am not an expert on these things, but even the blind should smell rain. The banks are in business to make money. Need I say more, Nigerian banks (or aptly, banks in Nigeria) are better managed than their telecommunications counterparts. An hypothesis most of us may challenge, but not many of us want our businesses to look like them |

I believe restructuring the debt and forcing Etisalat to appoint a trusted CEO would have made better sense than taking over a business the banks know nothing about. To run a telecommunications company you need foreign technical partners. Where will these banks start from?

NubiLove: Bros,30-50% of N541b might have end up at Hakeem Bello Osagie pocket, if you happen to be the group head, at Etisalat HQ, will you take that path. it better they divest/liquidate their investment than bail out Etisalat nigeria, when such can still repeat itself in no distance time. 5 Likes 1 Share |

It looks like any business this Hakeem Bello-Osagie touches, he runs it down. Why would a lucrative business like mobile telecom go bankrupt in Nigeria.

I'm beginning to wonder who is this Hakeem Bello-Osagie. he is failure personified. That is how he messed up with UBA till small entity of STB of Elumelu bought it over. He has touched ETISALAT with bad luck again. EFCC where are you? Sure he will be living a flambouyant life like Toyin Zubair

stcool: We talking financial you talking about history! What has history got to do with a default? Weren't there and agreement considered by both parties before g-off? That you shoul think about. It happens everywhere in the world! A reputable company like Etisalat would have headed to court if need be! I guess u clear now? |

They could have re-structured this loan before it got this bad.

Adeyeancah:Now these banks would either sell off the company to regain their loan or operate the company just to recoup their loans. Etisalat is never going to be the same again. |

why wouldn't they accumulate bills when they are always giving out credits and doing promos yanfu yanfu. I use Mtn despite their stinginess but the way etisalat customers talk about the excess bonuses they receive, I wonder if truly they do make gain. Mtn that has so many customers can't do that. Business is all about planning, I know when trying to get more customers, one has to do promo but you have to make sure that in that promo, you will still make gain not loosing out totally. to me I believe they lack good project managers and planning analysts. they do unnecessary promos, incurring Dept's on themseles. in business and life general, you don't assume things will work the way you've planned it. plan yourself and manage it in a way that you wouldn't lack or loose out. that also applies in business. MTN and other networks will be laughing at them. and it will be base on my reasons. they really intimated other networks with their excessive bonuses. my thought. 2 Likes |

motivator4:Which Bonus does etisalat give?...Etisalat Data Prices are the most expensive. They just didn't have enough customers I guess. Their network is also good, I hope the new management can maintain it. 2 Likes |
