Ok , does anybody here have info on our neighboring country Cameroon?

Im thinking of going there next year. My parents have a problem of me traveling home by myself, so I was wondering if Cameroon is better, because I have family that stay there, and my close friend has a place there where he can show me around.

So what do you think, Safe or no? Booring or exciting?

I personally want to visit their beaches, I heard they are very nice.

So what do you think.

Cameroon is a very pleasant country. Subjectively its much safer than Nigeria. I have family there myself.

Thanks snow, I was thinking I would be safer there by myself and I would have more privacy because "Everyone" would want to see me  in 9ja  and Im not the type to refuse seeing family unless they are irritating.

How is the nightlife?

Traveling by cars? Roads?

Wait do I need a visa for Cameroon?

Yes you will need a Visa, locate the consulate in your country (where you live)

--A port valid for at least 6 months.

--Two completed application forms

--Two port-size photographs taken frontally

--a legalised letter of invitation with the Cameroon police from either the host//partner in Cameroon and a letter of sponsorship from the applicant's well-known employer/establishment/organisation (in the case
of a private or business visit).

--Applicants would also need to show a return or continuation ticket and
proof of financial means of subsistence except where a tour operator/travel agency is organising the trip. A confirmed hotel reservation for tourists not in organised trips.

--Visa application fee

Yes, you probably can, most African countries especially those surrounding Nigeria have very porous borders BUT
to be on the safer side when staying for more than a few days it is advisable to have the visa just in case some one ask- their gendarme** (police) are not very friendly to Nigerians according to some reports

@ Disguy

You are quite right about the visa for cameroun, although this never occured to me and i have several Nigerian friends who have been there without visas. However they had gone there by land through cross river/akwa ibom states.

I heard Ghana has a nice beaches though. Not sure about Cameroon. As for safety, they are both safer than Nigeria. However, since you already have some in Cameroon, it will be likely be a better choice.
DisGuy: 12:28am On Dec 22, 2009
wow Bossman, is that you?!?!?!  shocked

Ghana is also a good choice, with more flight and coach options for friends and family to visit you- holiday for you and friends

You will not need visa to get into an ECOWAS country such as Ghana. Cameroon is NOT a member though.

Oh, Okay. Then you will need to get a visa. I do not see a way around that. Some airlines will not even let you fly out of here without a valid port or visa for the country you are going to.

OTOH, you can try your luck going by land through Nigeria.

I dont have a nigerian port though

Yes I was thinking that Boss . .

I have a valid visa for 3 years to Visa, I need to come home to get my Green port asap, I didnt have time last time I was home.

I wanted to try new things, there is a ship u take near PH and it brings u to Cameroon, I would like to try it for the experience.

@ poster I was there during my vacation last 2 months. u dont need a visa if u r staying for less than 3 months.
Kool place. Try going to Limbe and Kribi.
Dont forget ur yellow card! i.e immunization card.
Their police is something else. u ll start liking Nigerian policemen after dealing with them.
All in all, it's a nice place: constant power supply, well organised, 'tight' security.
