A white friend of mine offered a possible explanation to the unusual high rate of kidnappings and other ills befalling Ndiigbo in Nigeria today. He basically said that Ndiigbo and other Biafrans quickly forgot to honor their dead heroes. He said that Biafra might be the only case in human history where people fought a war and lost huge numbers of people (especially innocent people), and their kith and kin simply carried on as if nothing happened.
Soldiers who died fighting in foreign wars are often still honored in their home countries, even if their bodies were never recovered. A complete funeral is conducted. Biafran war dead deserve such honor and must recieve it for Igboland and Nigeria to even be stable talk less of moving forward.

I think it is time Ndiigbo properly honor our fallen heroes and heroines. These were men and women who died fighting for us, fighting to protect us against agents of genocide. We need to pick out a particular week once every year to mourn and eulogize them. In such week of Biafran mourning, all Igbo businesses should close and Biafran flags hoisted on all streets of old eastern region, our radio stations should also play musics and tunes commemorating them. Christian and other religious services should also be conducted on the 7th day (Sunday). Also they must be eulogized with things they stood for (Biafra anthem, songs and memorabilia). This should help to rest the souls of our dead heroes.

You cannot really know where you are going until you have properly come to with your past. Simple logic. It is time we mourn our dead.

Didn't know there are people still hurt about what happened decades ago. Hope you find succor.

Their history and stories should not be forgotten. May God's blessing help create a respectful, united, tolerant, and intelligent Nigeria in other to prevent another such war regardless of the configuration. God dey.

i understand how some people cant let this go knowing their family was effected by this war, and probably some of them didnt make it.

But I totally agree with this, not only a museum they should be a day off in the east as well where people have to volunteer to visit old peoples home to help out or if there was a retirement home

Good. Well we are having some sort of election here n Houston (IDG) to decide what to do to help our people back home and the Biafra veterans are among the list of people we want to help out (voting on).

So, these fantasists who want another Biafra, how geographically illiterate can you guys get? You forget that Baifra worked because the consistutional machinery of Nigeria had already defiend the Eastern Region, which Ojukwu simply pulled out of the country. The Eastern region is history now. To do another Biafra you would somehow have to get the Ogoni and Ijaw and Itsekiri and Efik and Akwa Ibom to your side. I lived in Port Harcourt for two years. Ogoni people don’t particularly love Igbos. Why should they trade domination by northerners for domination by Igbo?

There was no genocide plan. A couple of riots in the North isn't genocide. War is war, unfortunately. Ojukwu exposed his people to the full fury of a wartime Nigerian state when he pulled out of the Federation.

My proposal:

Set up monuments in towns of Enugu, Owerri and Aba and a public holiday in the eastern states.
This must be done whether the FG likes it or not.
Every country tends to rollup its history, but the slaughterhouse Biafra was never considered but rather ignored.
So as I said, we the former Biafrans must and salute.
We owe this not only to the fallen, but also to the Easteners in general.
