"The Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, on Friday stated that the federal government would do all within its power to rescue the economy from the doldrums, asserting that Nigeria is too significant a country to fail.
Adeosun, who was reacting to calls by the World Bank President Dr. Jim Yong Kim and the IMF managing director Ms. Christine Largard for massive investment in infrastructure, said, “Nigeria is too big to fail and too significant in the region to underperform.”
Speaking on the sideline of the plenary session of the 2016 IMF/World Bank meeting in Washington DC, she said, “What we are trying to do is to rewrite Nigeria’s economic story so that we can grow, and to grow we need critical infrastructure like power, transport, housing.
“These are where we are redirecting expenditure from our recurrent where we thought there have been a lot of waste and leakages.”
ment

Adeosun added that government is “redirecting spending to capital to create long term value. It’s tough in the short term but the long term benefits will be there for the future generation, we are confident of getting back to growth.
“If we invest in critical infrastructure there will be increased productivity, which will lead to job creation and prosperity for our people and it is very comforting to hear this coming from the highest levels that that is the way to go.”
The minister stated that Nigeria has aligned with the views of the multilateral institutions with regards to inclusive growth, stating that inclusive growth is one of the objectives of this istration to end poverty.
Government, she noted, is “investing heavily in education and as part of our social intervention programme we aim to engage more young graduates into primary schools because education,I’m sure, we will be soon start seeing improvements in our education indices.”

If the situation on ground in this accursed zoo is not a full blown symptoms of a failed state, then aunty kemi should head back to the institution that trained her and demand a full refund of her school fees.

Bunch of incompetent misfits

Capital my foot. Guess you think that all those socialist infastructures in your 2017 whatever also amount to CAPITAL EXPENDITURE. Folks who deliberately refuse to learn from history are bound to make any given situation worse.

Nigeria is very small and can fail within 1 week

There are 50 states in the USA, Alaska is one of those states, Nigeria is the size of Alaska

If the USA can fail, Nigeria can be deleted from the map of Africa in just 2 days

Rubbish...
It's rather too big to survive.
Size is not proportional to success.
Luxembourg, Japan, are all smaller than Nigeria in of land mass, population etc, the are all doing very well for themselves.
We keep deceiving ourselves, calling ourselves Giant of Africa, which part of Africa, probably Central Africa.

I was shocked yesterday when I learnt that Mozambique's Metical is almost X5 to the naira.
1 metical should be nearly 5 naira cry .

Ordinary Mozambique. Giant of Africa my unshaved assss
. We don't have strength in diversity.. Nah..
Rather
We have corruption, bigotry, stupidity, tribalism in Diversity grin

Good you know. The more reason why you need to start putting your words into actions because whatever is worth doing at all, is worth doing well.

People often comment off the face value of pronouncements without giving them much thought.

Whether you consider Nigeria a failed state or not depends on what your yardstick is. Her assessment obviously measures the country against its potential.

The critics aren't wrong either, as they seem to do so against obvious signs of failure.

While it's quite disheartening seeing where Nigeria currently stands, her potential shouldn't be outrightly dismissed.

I wish to comment further on this, but it looks like the latest Chrome Developer browser has some bug. I can barely see what I'm typing.

My sister, your choice of words is inconsequential with your academic knowledge. I sense you might be under the influence of the Aso-rock demons.

Where are the old famous world powers? they failed. Hence, no country in the world is immune to failure.

Get back to work sister, and get Nigeria out of total collapse.

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Shalom!
