The Nigerian senate has thrown out a bid for Special grants to be allocated to Lagos state as the nation's commercial capital.

The bill which was proposed by Senator Oluremi Tinubu will entitle Lagos state to one percent of the Nation's revenue. The bill was rejected in a rowdy session.

Events that led to the rejection of the bill

Things took a bad turn when Senator Olusola Adeyeye of the APC representing Osun central stood up talk. Adeyeye while defending the Lagos grant bill, took a jibe at the FCT, saying it was like a 'pampered child'.

This didn't go down well with Senator Philip Aduda, the representative of the FCT, who violently retorted, ordering Adeyeye to withdraw his statement. Other senators from the northern part of the country stood up in of Adeda demanding a withdrawal of statement from Adeyeye.

The session became very rowdy before Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu waded in and asked Senator Adeyeye to withdraw his statement. Adeyeye withdrew his statement and order was restored but this had laid the foundation for the bill's waterloo.

Ekweremadu then put the bill into voting which unsurprisingly was unanimously rejected by the senators.

Lagos as a former federal capital territory deserves a special status for the purpose of revenue sharing in order to manage the huge challenges that was inherited from the relocation of the country's capital. This is in line with best practises all over the world. But unfortunately, tribalism, hatred and outright jealousy will not allow the law makers take the right decision.

sad the north is hell bent on betraying Tinubu but they forget that no tribe can mess with the almighty oduduwa. They should retrace history and check how yoruba Kingdoms dominated west Africa before the arrival of the British

This is a ridiculous bill.

Lagos already makes more money than any other State.

Also, asking the Federal govt to treat Lagos differently is an invitation to make the place a Federal colony.

Who wants that.

The only crime i see there is the sponsor of said bill.

If someone else had brought up the motion, perhaps we wouldnt be talking this now.
Am sure majority of the senators saw it as an avenue to expand the Burdillion Empire......i guess you and I agree with their instincts. cheesy cheesy

As much as the bill sounds good, Tinubu should have allowed sleeping dogs dream well.

Anyway, it will be on record that there was a bill.

....you see this westerners think they're smarter than the rest of the country..
And that's why they always have issue..

What kind of bill gives lagos 1/ of nation revenue..yet when the NDA or naija delta agitators make demands...

Genuine demands that will see to development of the nation's life line.

This same westerners will player hate and port military invasion. but will want 1/ given to lagos.

So where are the gonna get the 1/ from, even if?

You see greed and ignorance..

Yoruba no dey make noise, they are all coming back to SW in 2018 to postrate just as they did in 2015. But this time around, they will be made to bite the dust & kiss Afonja's ass with their mouths. In the meantime, igbos in lagos will bear the brunt. They'd be made to work much more harder & pay more to their yoruba masters in lagos. No time for radarada. All hail Afonja.

PS; The bill will be re-introduced. It's APC top agenda. Igbos, hausa/fulani cannot stop it.

Best practices??

Which country has division of revenue among member states as practices not to talk of best practices?

Useless bill fit for the dustbin.

Later all these Cat whisker faced oblong head afonja will come and tell us it's their land , that they single handed developed it, the federal govt money sunk in Lagos is not enough for them, our collective wealth as a nation.

What happened to all the billions Lagos earn as a result of one sided govt policy that placed her in vintage position compared to other states?

May be lokoja and calaber should also be included as beneficiaries after all they are former capitals.
